Happy 40th Birthday to the City of Solana Beach!

Yesterday, July 1st, the City of Solana Beach celebrated the 40th anniversary of our incorporation as a City, a big milestone in our community’s history. Over the past four decades, our City has grown and thrived thanks to the dedication of our residents, local businesses, past and present City Councilmembers and Mayors, and our exceptional City staff.

The people of Solana Beach have always been at the heart of what makes our community so special. Beginning with this evening’s Concert at the Park – held tonight on the Beach at Fletcher Cove – and continuing throughout the coming year, we will celebrate our City with special events and opportunities to share what we love about our town, reflect on cherished memories, and come together as a community in our parks, along our beaches, and throughout the City.

As City Manager, I also want to underscore that our dedicated City staff remain committed to public safety, fiscal responsibility, and investing in the services and infrastructure that preserve the natural beauty and uniqueness of our City. Happy Birthday, Solana Beach! We look forward to celebrating with you throughout the coming year.

Alyssa Muto

City Manager

Important Reminders for Fourth of July

With the Fourth of July celebrations coming up this weekend, the City reminds everyone to prioritize safety, respect city regulations, and be mindful of your surroundings and neighbors. Remember, possessing and discharging of fireworks is illegal. Let’s make the holiday enjoyable for all by celebrating responsibly and respectfully. Whether you're gathering with family and friends at home, around town, or enjoying time at the beach, a little consideration goes a long way in keeping our community safe and festive.

Beach Safety

This weekend is the biggest beach holiday of the year. The Solana Beach Lifeguards would like to share some beach safety tips to ensure a fun, safe holiday weekend: Be mindful of the steeper beach slope leading to a quick drop-off and potential shore break and watch your small children even near the shore. Always swim near a lifeguard, preferably in designated swim areas. Stay away from bluffs, overhangs, and caves. Always follow beach and park rules: no fireworks, alcohol, glass, smoking, drones, or beach camping. Remember to pack in and pack out, and do not leave any trash behind. Have a safe and memorable Fourth of July in Solana Beach!

Pet Safety

Fireworks may be festive for us, but they can be terrifying for pets, and each year, many frightened animals end up lost or in shelters. Help protect your furry friends by ensuring they're microchipped and wearing ID tags with updated information, and are securely leashed when appropriate. Consider creating a calm, quiet space at home or speaking with your vet about stress-reducing options. To support responsible pet care, the San Diego Humane Society is offering free microchipping through July 3rd and waiving dog license fees through July 7th. Don't wait until it's too late! Take steps now to keep your pet safe and sound this holiday.

Firework Safety

The City would like to remind everyone that all fireworks, including sparklers and poppers, are illegal. Violators will be fined and may receive other penalties. To enjoy fireworks safely, we encourage you to grab a good spot to watch the San Diego County Fair's Firework Spectacular show starting at 9:00 PM. This event and other professional firework shows around San Diego are conducted under strict safety protocols, offering a festive experience without the risk.

Solana Circle Road Closure

Solana Circle will once again be closed to all vehicle traffic from 7:00 PM to 10:00 PM on Saturday, July 4th to allow safe viewing of the fireworks display at the Del Mar Fairgrounds. This road closure includes all of Solana Circle from the intersection at Via de la Valle through S. Nardo Avenue. No vehicles (besides public safety vehicles) will be allowed to enter or exit during the closure. Residents along this corridor are advised to plan ahead and be prepared for this closure.

Back To School Donation Drive

undefined

The 2nd Annual Solana Beach Cares Back-to-School Supplies Drive has begun! Throughout the month of July, we invite the community to donate new school supplies to help local students and families as they prepare for the upcoming school year. Donation bins are available at Solana Beach City Hall and La Colonia Community Center during regular business hours throughout the month. Every backpack, notebook, pencil, and supply helps! Please review the approved supply list on the City’s website before donating to ensure items meet students’ needs. Together, we can help make a positive impact for local students!

Submit Highway Requests to Caltrans Online Portal

Solana Beach Public Works team has noticed that some of the requests submitted through the City of Solana Beach App fall under Caltrans' jurisdiction. These include requests relating to trash, irrigation runoff, and illegal encampments along state highways. Although the Public Works team has been redirecting those requests, submitting a request directly on the Caltrans Online Portal means that residents can track the progress themselves. Check out the City website for the links and steps for submitting a customer service request.

Join the Conversation, Solana Beach!

Our City's economy is based in large part on visitors to our community. Ensuring that visitors who stay in our local hotels and short-term lodging contribute to addressing the impacts of tourism, is a responsible long-term approach to the City's fiscal stability and quality of life. How can we do that? It’s important everyone in our community has an opportunity to join this important discussion. We want to hear from all our residents and local businesses on City service needs and priorities. Please join the conversation today!
