Introducing Our New Assistant City Manager: Jocelyn Francis |
|
|
The City of Solana Beach is pleased to announce the selection of Jocelyn Francis as the new Assistant City Manager. She will begin her role on July 6. With her exceptional experience, proven leadership, and strong commitment to public service, Jocelyn is well-qualified to help guide the City’s operations and strategic priorities.
Jocelyn joins Solana Beach after serving three years as the Assistant City Manager for the City of Avalon, and before that held leadership roles for the Cities of Pacific Grove, Monterey, Seaside, and Santa Ana. Throughout her career, Francis has built a diverse portfolio that includes administrative services, information technology, code enforcement, housing, solid waste management, public information, legislative affairs, transportation, and special projects.
During her tenure serving the City of Avalon, Jocelyn established Avalon’s first information technology division, increased waste diversion rates and expanded recycling access, and spearheaded the Pebbly Beach Landfill Site Life Optimization Project.
Jocelyn is a proud undergraduate alumni of San Diego State University, and holds a Master of Public Administration from California State University, Fullerton.

Upcoming E-Bike Classes in San Diego |

Supervisor Terra Lawson-Remer has partnered with the San Diego Bike Coalition, Scripps Health, and the YMCA to offer several free, hands-on, youth e-bike safety classes this June through August. Each three-hour course is designed for riders ages 12-16 to practice real-world riding skills with certified instructors through classroom instruction, parking lot drills, and supervised street riding. Riders should bring their own bike, electric or manual. Every participant will receive a free e-bike rated helmet, courtesy of Scripps Health. Find a class in your area and register today! |

The Solana Beach "Concerts at the Cove" summer beachside concert series continues this week and runs from June 11th to August 6th. These concerts are for audiences of all ages and will be held every Thursday at 6:00 PM. The park fills up quickly, so arrive early to reserve your spot! Guests are encouraged to arrive “car-free”, bring low-back beach chairs, ground covers or picnic blankets. If you are planning to bring dinner, please remember to shop locally! |

Next up in our Concerts at the Cove series is Slack Key 'Ohana! On Thursday, June 25th at 6:00 PM at Fletcher Cove Park, come enjoy original and traditional Hawaiian music. Slack Key ‘Ohana transports listeners to the islands through music and creates feelings of love, connectedness, and sheer joy. Whether presented in a full band setting augmented by hula dancers or a fire dancer, Slack Key ‘Ohana takes audiences on an island adventure filled with the tradition of the aloha spirit, singalong songs, and the warmth and comfort of family! |

40th Anniversary Concert on the Beach Thursday, July 2nd at 6:00 PM |

On July 1st, the City turns 40 and we're celebrating all year long with bigger, bolder, and more memorable community events! Kicking off the 40th anniversary festivities is the City's first-ever Concert on the Beach on Thursday, July 2nd, at Fletcher Cove Beach! In honor of our 1986 incorporation, we're throwing it back to the decade where it all began with an evening of iconic 80s music. Atomic Groove will open the night with crowd favorites before headliner Betamaxx takes the stage with an electrifying tribute to the biggest hits of the 80s. Bring your beach chairs, blankets, and dancing shoes, and join us at 6:00 PM for this one-of-a-kind concert experience on the sand. |

Save the date for Beach Blanket Movie Night on Saturday, August 8th, 6:00 PM! As part of the City's 40th Anniversary Celebrations, this beloved community event is getting a special upgrade and moving to the sand at Fletcher Cove Beach. Grab a blanket, pack a picnic, and join us for an unforgettable evening by the ocean. The fun will begin with live music from the Silver String Submarine Band, followed by the featured screening of A Minecraft Movie. Enjoy pizza, popcorn, cookies, brownies, and other refreshments throughout the evening. Come celebrate 40 years the Solana Beach way - on the beach! |

How to Submit Public Comments
Written Comments: To provide written input on an agenda item, email the City Clerk at clerkoffice@cityofsolanabeach.ca.gov.
- Use the meeting date in the subject line and include the agenda item number.
- Written comments must be submitted at least two hours before the meeting.
- Please note written comments will not be read aloud during the meeting but will be shared with the Council and added to the public record.
Verbal Comments: To speak during the meeting, submit a speaker slip to the City Clerk before the meeting starts or before the relevant agenda item is announced.
- Each speaker is allotted 3 minutes per topic.
- Individuals can receive up to 6 minutes if time is donated by another attendee, or up to 10 minutes for group discussions. For public hearings, time donated by two attendees allows up to 15 minutes for a speaker.
