Get Ready for Beach Blanket Movie Night Taking Place on the Sand! |

We're continuing our 40th anniversary festivities with Beach Blanket Movie Night at Fletcher Cove Beach this Saturday, August 8 at 6:00 PM! We are excited to announce that this year's Beach Blanket Movie Night will take place on the sand for the very first time. Get ready for another epic beach party with live music, giveaways, and a movie under the stars all for FREE! |

Featured Performer & Movie: The Silver String Submarine Band will open the night with some blues, swing, and roots. Then when the sun goes down, settle in for a special screening of the vintage 1940s surf short film "Riding the Crest." Finally, when the stars are out, get ready to watch the featured film "North Shore." |

How to get there: Walk to the beach or get your bikes out and take advantage of the free bike valet located in the parking lot at Fletcher Cove Park. Not only is this an opportunity to enjoy our beautiful coastal weather and get some exercise, but it also helps reduce parking congestion and cut down on greenhouse emissions. |

|
What to bring: Sit back and relax with low-back beach chairs and picnic blankets. Bring your reusable water bottle and fill up at our water station. Purchase food, drinks, and t-shirts with cash or card. While there will be plenty of waste stations, remember to pack in and pack out, and take care of our beach by picking up any trash. |

Proper Battery Disposal Reminder |

Remember to never throw your old batteries or other household hazardous waste items in the trash! Just last week, improper disposal of a lithium-ion battery caused a recycling truck to catch fire in Solana Beach at the intersection of Via Mil Cumbres and Lomas Santa Fe Drive. This fire caused road closures and traffic impacts while the recycling load was ejected from the truck to the street. Fortunately, it was promptly extinguished by the Fire Department, and clean up was completed within a few hours. Check the website to see where you should dispose of your old batteries. |

Senior Transportation Program Expanded Hours |

After receiving valued feedback from the community, the Solana Beach Senior Transportation Program hours are expanding! Now, rides can be scheduled anytime Monday through Friday, between 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM. This pilot program offers free, safe, and reliable transportation to adults age 65+, and provides all levels of service: curb-to-curb, door-to-door, and door-thru-door, keeps you connected to friends, family, and important appointments. New State Rebate Available for First-Time EV Buyers |

Tonight is the final concert in our summer Concerts at the Cove series is Coronado Big Band! The Coronado Big Band is a multi-faceted 17-piece swing band that plays traditional swing standards as well as contemporary big band hits. They also have an extensive selection of vocal music to feature a guest vocalist. Their mix of music makes swing dancing so much fun! As healthcare authorities are reporting an increase in seasonal respiratory illnesses, it's important to protect yourself and your families from viruses that cause respiratory illness. At 6:00 PM on Tuesday, August 11, join us at La Colonia Community Center to hear Dr. Steve Kuriyama talk about how to protect yourself from these illnesses. Dr. Kuriyama will discuss the most common viruses, preventative measures, and new treatments. |

Join Solana Beach Community Connections on Thursday, August 13 for their monthly Games Day! This fun community event is held every second Thursday of the month from 12:00-2:00 PM at La Colonia Community Center. Come make new friends while enjoying a variety of games, including Mexican Train, American Mahjong, Play Nine, Flip 7, or Chess. This monthly series is hosted in collaboration with the City's Parks and Recreation Department, Solana Beach Community Connections and Let's Play a Game Foundation. Transportation for local seniors is available upon request. |
