City of Solana Beach WEEKLY UPDATE April 17, 2026 |
Earth Day Wednesday, April 22nd |
Happy Earth Day, Solana Beach! Creating an environmentally sustainable community has always been a top priority in the City, which is why our City Council adopted a Climate Action Plan in 2017 that set targets to reduce citywide emissions by 50% by 2035. The City continues to make strides towards sustainability each year, from planting a native pollinator garden in front of City Hall, launching a Heat Pump Water Heater program to support electrification, installing a beach cleanup station at Fletcher Cove, and so much more. Thank you for supporting sustainable City initiatives to help implement the Climate Action Plan and keep Solana Beach clean and green! |

Navigating Stingray Season: Tips and Insights |
The Marine Safety Department has noticed an uptick in the number of stingrays at our beaches. Warm weather and water temperatures mean stingrays may be in shallow water close to shore. To avoid injuries, it is best to perform the "stingray shuffle" by shuffling your feet through the sand rather than stepping as you walk out into the ocean. This motion kicks up the sand and alerts the stingray to move. In the case of a sting, go to a lifeguard tower for treatment. Check out this guide on how to identify, treat, and prevent stingray stings. |

County to Conduct Mosquito-Fighting Larvicide Drop |
The County is preparing for the next aerial larvicide drop, scheduled for Wednesday, April 22nd and Thursday, April 23rd. A total of 54 locations, including the San Elijo and San Dieguito Lagoons, will be treated to help curb mosquito populations and reduce the risk of diseases like West Nile virus. Every year from April through October, the County conducts these drops using special helicopters to apply solid, granular larvicide to hard-to-reach areas such as rivers, streams, lagoons, and ponds. This larvicide poses no threat to humans or pets but is highly effective in eliminating mosquito larvae before they mature into biting adults. This is just one of the many ways the County helps protect public health during mosquito season. |
