Protect Yourself from Fraud and Identity Theft

The San Diego County Sheriff’s Office is sharing important reminders with our community following a recent increase in fraud, especially schemes targeting seniors. Residents can help protect themselves and their neighbors by being mindful of what personal information is available online, using strong privacy settings, and staying cautious of unexpected calls, messages, or payment requests. Simple actions like shredding documents, promptly collecting mail, tracking packages, and checking credit reports throughout the year can go a long way in reducing risk. For more information and resources, click "Learn More".

Reminder to Correctly Dispose of Household Hazardous Waste (HHW)

Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) refers to common household items that many of us use, such as e-waste, batteries, paint, household cleaners, and landscaping chemicals. When these items are not disposed of properly, they can pose safety risks to our community and harm the environment, which is why they should never go in curbside bins. Residents are encouraged to remove batteries from everyday items like electric toothbrushes, razors, remotes, smartwatches, clocks, and electronic toys, and recycle them at the battery bin inside Solana Beach City Hall. All other HHW items can be taken to a facility or picked up by scheduling a collection at (858) 481-7233. Home pick-ups charge a reasonable $10 per appointment and are free for seniors and homebound residents. By taking a few extra steps to properly dispose of HHW, our community can help keep Solana Beach safe, clean, and environmentally responsible.

New Beach Toy Borrow Box Arrives at Fletcher Cove

Fletcher Cove got a little more fun today with the unveiling of the new Beach Toy Borrow Box. City leaders, community members, and Girl Scout Troop 2200 gathered for a ribbon cutting to celebrate this creative sustainability project, which was built by the Girl Scouts themselves. The Beach Toy Borrow Box invites beachgoers to borrow, play, and return toys instead of purchasing single-use plastic items, helping keep our shoreline clean and clutter-free. It’s a small box with a big impact, powered by youth leadership, community spirit, and a shared love for our coast. Residents are encouraged to snap photos while using the new Beach Toy Borrow Box and tag the City of Solana Beach on social media to share the fun and help spread the word.

A special thank you to Girl Scout Troop 2200 and troop leader Katie Mahzari for creating the box and generously donating the toys inside. Thank you as well to the 5th and 6th grade students of Solana Santa Fe Elementary School and Parks for supporting this project.

City Council Approves Permanent Outdoor Dining

Last week brought big wins for outdoor dining in Solana Beach. On January 14th, City Council approved Ordinance 533, officially making outdoor dining a permanent option for Solana Beach restaurants. The new ordinance supports local businesses while establishing clear standards to keep sidewalks safe, clean, and enjoyable for the public. This update helps foster a lively downtown and provides more outdoor space to enjoy our beautiful coastal weather!

Save on Energy Bills with CEA Programs

Clean Energy Alliance (CEA) offers a variety of programs and incentives to help Solana Beach residents lower their energy bills while reducing their environmental impact. Current programs include PeakSmart Savers, which rewards customers for shifting energy use during peak hours, and Solar Plus and Battery Bonus, which offer solar panels and battery systems with no upfront costs or credit checks. In addition, CEA has launched a new Incentive Finder Tool that makes it easy to discover even more local, state, and federal programs you can take advantage of. See which programs you qualify for and apply today!

Coastal Rail Services Suspended This Weekend

This Saturday, January 24th, and Sunday, January 25th, the North County Transit District (NCTD) will be suspending all coastal rail services between San Diego and Oceanside to perform routine railroad maintenance and major infrastructure work. All services will be back to normal on Monday, January 26th. Riders are urged to plan ahead and make alternative travel arrangements.
