Dear Residents and Community Members,
Thank you to everyone who participated in our recent community conversation. We greatly appreciate the time and thoughtful feedback provided by residents, business owners, and community stakeholders – we are listening.
Throughout our discussions, community members emphasized the importance of maintaining local control over the services that support our local quality of life. Many residents expressed concern that we cannot depend on the State or Federal Government to address all our local needs and that having a stable, locally controlled source of funding is important to maintaining essential City services for residents and local businesses.
Residents also recognized that our local economy is strongly supported by visitors and tourism. Community members noted that ensuring visitors who stay in local hotels and short-term lodging contribute toward addressing the impacts of tourism is a responsible long-term approach that can help support the City's fiscal stability while protecting the quality of life that residents value.
As part of the community conversation, residents identified several City service priorities, including:
- Keeping trash and pollution out of our lagoons, local waterways, and beaches
- Keeping parks, beaches, and trails safe, clean, and well-maintained
- Maintaining clean and well-maintained public restrooms
- Maintaining lifeguard services at local beaches
- Upgrading coastal life-saving emergency medical equipment and technology
Thank you again to everyone who shared their perspectives. Community input continues to play an important role in helping inform future City discussions and priorities. We look forward to keeping you updated as these conversations continue.
Sincerely, |
