New Upgrades Coming to La Colonia Park

The City Council has greenlit exciting short-term enhancements for the vacant lot next to the La Colonia Park, paving the way for a more inviting and vibrant community space. The interim plan features a winding walking trail, shaded patio seating with a wood trellis, and drought-tolerant landscaping around the park's existing lemon and eucalyptus trees. These improvements will seamlessly connect the area to the Heritage Museum and create a welcoming environment for neighbors and visitors alike while long-term plans for a new City Youth and Senior Center take shape.

Looking ahead, these upgrades are just the first step toward a reimagined La Colonia Park Master Plan also approved by Council at the last meeting. In alignment with the City's Commitment to enhancing public spaces, future plans also include expanded picnic areas, an event lawn designed for community gatherings, and renovations to the existing community center to create brighter, more flexible spaces, while finding places to relocate special features such as the "Tree of Life" and our outside performance stage. Construction of the interim improvements is expected to move forward soon, and community members are encouraged to stay involved as planning for the next phase continues.

Online Business Certificate Applications

Exciting news! The City has officially rolled out online Business Certificate Applications! For new businesses in our City, Business Certificate applications, and for our existing businesses, annual renewals, can all be done entirely online through the City's eTRAKiT platform (with a 2.95% processing fee). The City has made it so much easier to submit your application directly from your computer, with no in-person visit required. This upgrade is just the first step toward expanding online payment options for City services, making City business easier and more convenient for the community

City Participants in North County Earthquake TTX

Photo taken by Oceanside Fire Department

This week, the City Manager and key staff participated in the North County Emergency Managers Earthquake Tabletop Exercise (TTX), which brought together 24 jurisdictions and stakeholder agencies to enhance emergency response and coordination across the North Zone. The exercise focused on key Emergency Operations Center (EOC) roles including the Policy Group, Public Works, Utilities & Wastewater, Public Information Officer (PIO), emergency responders, and emergency managers. Events like these provide valuable opportunities for City staff to strengthen readiness, improve interagency communication, and plan for coordinated response in the event of a disaster. Based on the training, we pulled together a set of practical takeaways and linked them below to help you and your family stay prepared.

Enhance Your Home Energy Independence

with Solar & Battery Incentives

Installing solar and battery storage is a powerful way to reduce your carbon footprint, lower monthly energy bills, and build resilience during power outages. In Solana Beach, electricity use accounts for nearly 19% of greenhouse gas emissions, making home energy upgrades a meaningful step toward climate action. Now, there are two new state-funded programs for income-qualified residents. The Solar Plus Connect Program offers affordable solar and battery system installations, while the Battery Bonus Connect Program provides no-cost batteries to households that already have solar. Eligible customers include those in CARE, FERA, or households earning 80% or less of the Area Median Income. Funding is limited, apply soon and take a step toward energy independence and savings!
