As the rain subsides, add a crucial task to your post-rain checklist: inspect and remove standing water. With many items collecting water over the weekend, please ensure that drains are clear of debris and please empty containers, potted plant trays, trash, or yard items holding water. Standing water can become an unsuspected mosquito breeding ground if left for too long. Since mosquitoes take about a week to mature from larvae to adults, remember to empty water weekly or use fine sand/gravel to deter them. Getting rid of mosquito-breeding sites is critical to lowering the number of mosquitoes in our community. |
