Have A Wonderful Thanksgiving!

The City of Solana Beach wishes our amazing community a happy Thanksgiving! This cherished holiday offers a time to gather with loved ones, enjoy a delicious feast, and appreciate life’s simple joys. It’s a wonderful opportunity to spread kindness and foster a spirit of gratitude across our community. May your Thanksgiving be filled with love, laughter, and special moments with family and friends.

Thanksgiving Holiday Observances

City Hall Closure

Solana Beach City Hall and all non-essential City buildings will be closed on Thursday, November 27th & Friday, November 28th in observance of the Thanksgiving holiday. Regular hours will resume on Monday, December 1st. Have a wonderful holiday!

EDCO Service Delay

In observance of the Thanksgiving holiday, EDCO's residential collection service will not be performed on Thursday, November 27th. Residents with a trash pickup scheduled for Thursday or after will have a one-day residential delay in service.

Reminder to Properly Dispose of Fat, Oil, & Grease

Thanksgiving often means dealing with extra fat, oil, and grease (FOG). To help prevent plumbing issues this holiday, the City would like to remind residents not to pour FOG down the kitchen sink and to dispose of it properly. FOG is one of the leading causes of sewer backups because it doesn’t mix with water and quickly solidifies inside pipes. To properly dispose it, scrape FOG into your organics cart, or pour cooled grease into a sealed, leakproof container and take it to an EDCO Buyback Center. A few extra steps in the kitchen can help you avoid expensive plumbing issues later on.

What to Do with Sandbags After the Storm

Once the weather clears, we often receive questions about what to do with used sandbags. The City does not take back used sandbags, but there are plenty of good options for residents to consider. You can save the sandbags for future storms if they are still in good condition. You may reuse clean sand in your garden or landscaping. If the sandbags are no longer usable, you can dispose of them responsibly by taking them to a local landfill; please do not place sandbags in regular trash bins. If any bags came into contact with floodwater, mud, or other contaminants, they may require special handling and should be disposed of carefully.

Clean Energy Alliance PeakSmart Program

The Clean Energy Alliance (CEA) just launched their pilot PeakSmart Savers program! This program offers discounted rates to eligible residential customers who will voluntarily reduce or shift when they use electricity. The goal of this program is to reduce demand on the electric grid during “peak” hours, typically from 4:00-9:00 PM. Learn more about the program and see if you are eligible below.

Fletcher Cove Holiday Tree Lighting

To celebrate the start of the holiday season, the City and the Solana Beach Parks and Recreation Commission invite you to join your friends and neighbors for the annual Holiday Tree Lighting event at Fletcher Cove Park on Sunday, December 7th, starting at 4:30 PM. Once the tree's light switch is flipped, all eyes turn to watch for Santa's arrival by fire-truck escort! Children will have the chance to ask Santa for that most important gift and to remind him just how good they've been all year! There will be live music and cookies, cider, and treats.

Santa's Sleigh Ride

Back by popular demand, the City and the City's Solana Beach Parks and Recreation Commission are excited to invite you to join us to watch Santa's Sleigh Ride through the community! On Friday December 12th, starting at 2:30 PM, Santa will be riding along with our Fire, Sheriff and Marine Safety personnel throughout Solana Beach. The Sleigh Ride will begin and end at the Solana Beach Fire Station, located at 500 Lomas Santa Fe Drive. Please view the map at the link below to find the estimated time when Santa will be riding through your neighborhood.

La Colonia Tree Lighting

Saturday, December 13th, 5:00 PM

The City and La Colonia Community Foundation invite you to a special La Colonia Park Holiday Tree Lighting event on Saturday, December 13th, at 5:00 PM. Join your friends and neighbors at La Colonia Park to celebrate the holiday season. There will be plenty of sweets, treats, and Mexican hot cocoa to go along with all the fun, including traditional holiday aguinaldos treat bags for the children, and delicious pan dulce (Mexican sweet bread). Santa will make another appearance and children will have the chance to share their special wish.

Senior Holiday Gift Baskets Donation Drive

There are only a few weeks left to donate items for our Senior Holiday Gift Baskets. This special drive really helps brighten the holiday season for local seniors who may be spending the holidays on their own. Residents are encouraged to drop off small comfort items like calendars, puzzle books, cozy socks, holiday treats, or warm beverages in the designated bin at City Hall. You can also help by letting us know of any seniors who may benefit from a gift basket. Help us spread a little extra holiday cheer this season! The final day to donate is Wednesday, December 10th.

Solana Beach Fire Department Toy Drive

The Fire Department is hosting their annual Holiday Toy Drive to bring smiles to the children of local Marine Corp families, and your generosity can make all the difference! They are collecting new, unwrapped toys for children of all ages, from toddlers to teens. Whether it’s a cuddly teddy bear or a cool sketchbook, every gift helps brighten a local United States Marine Corp family's holiday. Toys go directly to the Edson Range Chapel to distribute during their annual Christmas party. Donations will be accepted now through December 23rd.
