Be Prepared for Heavy Rain This Weekend

Heavy rainfall is forecast to start tonight through Wednesday, November 19th, with the heaviest rainfall expected this weekend. To help residents prepare, the City is offering free pre-filled sandbags for self pickup in the City Hall parking lot (635 S. Highway 101), limited to seven per household. We encourage everyone to take simple steps to stay safe: secure outdoor items, turn off irrigation, drive with extra caution, and watch for debris or localized flooding. Residents can also report storm-related issues (such as flooding, fallen branches, or blocked drains) using the Solana Beach App. For more storm preparedness tips, click “Learn More” below. Stay safe, Solana Beach!

World Kindness Day Event Canceled Due to Rain

Due to the upcoming rainstorm forecasted for this weekend, the World Kindness Day Celebration scheduled for Saturday, November 15th at Fletcher Cove Park has been cancelled. Please stay tuned for a potential rescheduled date. Thank you to everyone who signed up to volunteer and to the local organizations who were preparing fun kindness-themed booths and activities. While it’s disappointing to cancel, the rain is much needed in our region. And even though we won’t be gathering in person, we encourage you to keep the spirit of kindness alive in your own way this weekend. Go check in on a neighbor, share a warm meal, or do something small that makes someone smile.

City Launches New Walking Club for Mature Adults

Get ready to get moving with Solana Striders, the City’s newest walking club for mature adults who want to stay active, healthy, and connected! Kicking off December 3rd, the Solana Striders will meet on the first Monday of each month for relaxed morning walks led by Parks & Recreation staff and community volunteers, creating a safe and social experience for all. This free, easygoing outing is ideal for mature adults and anyone who wants to join in. Walks begin at 8:30 AM at the north end of the Solana Beach Transit Center parking lot. Bring comfy shoes, water, and good vibes!

E-Bike Safety & E-Motorcycle Reminder

E-bikes are a fun and efficient way to get around when they’re ridden safely and responsibly. Just like regular bicycles, e-bikes must follow the same rules of the road as any other vehicle. But e-motorcycles are a different story. They are not legal on public streets. E-bikes have pedals and motors under 750 watts, while e-motorcycles can range from 2,800 to over 21,000 watts and reach speeds up to 60 mph. Using e-motorcycles on public roads can lead to towing, impound, and citations for both the rider and the owner. Please help keep Solana Beach streets safe for everyone.

Solana Beach Climate Corner:

What is a Heat Pump?

Have you heard someone talking about a heat pump and wondered what it is or what it is for? Let us help! A heat pump is a type of heating and cooling devise that can be used to heat water and air in a home or business. Since heat pump air conditioning and water heaters are a relatively new technology, the lack of familiarity and awareness of these products can lead to a hesitancy to install. However, most people benefit from heat pumps everyday, as this is the same technology that is used in refrigerators! Heat pump technology is approximately 3x more energy efficient than their gas-powered counterparts, and one of the best ways to make your home more eco-friendly. Learn more about heat pumps and allow us to help you dispel some myths and misconceptions by visiting the City website link below.
