Fall Sustainable Recycling Day is TOMORROW!

This Saturday, October 4th, is the annual Fall Sustainable Recycling Day (formerly known as Bulky-Item Cleanup Day). We are excited to host the event at the La Colonia Park parking lot from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM. This is the best time to drop off unwanted bulky items and electronic waste, donate items to Goodwill that can still be used, pick up self-loading mulch, and shred personal documents with certified shredding trucks. If you have scheduled to participate in the curbside pickup service, please remember to place all items curbside by 7:00 AM. There is still time to register for the curbside service by calling (858) 350-8544. Let’s work together to stay sustainable and come recycle with us!

Annual Citywide Street Repair Project

The Annual Citywide Pavement Rehabilitation Project is scheduled to begin on October 6th and is expected to be completed by end of January 2026. The project is scheduled to occur in several locations throughout the City. The work will include both spot repairs and segment resurfacing of roadways based on citywide evaluations of roadway conditions.

Of special note, Lomas Santa Fe Drive, from Highway 101 to Solana Hills Drive, will be completely resurfaced and the work will be done at night from October 20th to October 23rd to minimize disruption to the community. Construction will require temporarily diverting traffic down to one traffic lane in each direction during the work. Traffic detour signs and an electronic message board will be placed near the work zone to inform the community about the construction activities. At the end of the project the road will be returned to two smooth lanes in each direction with some new painted bike lanes along portions of this stretch of roadway to help with students biking to and from school.

Please use caution while traveling through the construction zones and keep an eye out for any construction traffic and detour signs put in place. For those of you with children who walk or bike to school, please share this information with your children to make sure they are extra alert to changes in the roadway and construction activities during these times. You can learn more below and see a map of the street repair locations in your neighborhood.

Marine Safety's Pink Patch Project

The Solana Beach Marine Safety Department will proudly wear pink patches on their regular duty uniforms for the entire month of October in support of Breast Cancer Awareness Month. These distinctive pink patches have been uniquely designed for their involvement in the Pink Patch Project, a collaborative campaign involving public safety agencies across the nation. This vital project not only raises breast cancer awareness, but also actively contributes to breast cancer prevention and cure research. To show support like our Lifeguards, you can purchase these pink patches at the Fletcher Cove Marine Safety Facility and wear them throughout October and beyond. All proceeds from patch sales benefit the Susan G Komen Breast Cancer Foundation.

Annual Fire Prevention Week

Next week is National Fire Prevention Week (October 5th - 11th), dedicated to raising fire safety awareness and protecting homes and families. This year’s spotlight is “Charge into Fire Safety™: Lithium-Ion Batteries in Your Home". The campaign stresses how important it is to buy, charge, and recycle safely when it comes to lithium-ion batteries. When buying a product that uses a lithium ion battery, look for a listed safety certification mark on the labeling such as UL, ETL, or CSA. Other tips include charge devices only with the cord that came with the product, follow instructions for handling and storage, and don't overcharge. Finally, remember to recycle batteries responsibly through one of our EDCO e-waste programs, and do not throw them into the trash or regular recycling bin at home.

Clean Energy Incentives: Use it or Lose it!

Did you know that electrification can not only reduce GHG emissions, but also provide cleaner quality air within your home, improve your home's safety, and lower your energy bill long term? To reduce the initial cost of home electrification upgrades, the Inflation Reduction Act offers federal incentives for residents, businesses, and nonprofits who electrify. Whether that be a home efficiency upgrade, installing solar panels, purchasing an electric vehicle, or swapping your AC and heater out for a heat pump, these incentives will be available for a limited time. If you are interested in electrifying, now is the time!
