| City of Solana Beach WEEKLY UPDATE August 21, 2025 | | Fighting the Fentanyl Overdose Epidemic | | | August 21st is National Fentanyl Prevention and Awareness Day, and the City is joining the County's efforts to raise awareness about the dangers of fentanyl and how to prevent overdose deaths. Fentanyl is the deadliest drug threat facing our nation, and it is present in every city, community, and neighborhood. To address this crisis, the County has implemented a countywide "Harm Reduction Strategy" that includes the distribution of fentanyl test strips and naloxone (Narcan). Narcan is a nasal spray that when used quickly can save lives and reverse an opioid overdose. These life-saving tools are available for free at various locations across the county, ensuring easy access for those in need. We encourage residents to use the link below to obtain these free resources for your home to protect yourself and your loved ones from the dangers of fentanyl. | | New Bench at El Viento Pocket Park | | | A brand-new bench now sits in front of one of Solana Beach’s favorite public art pieces, Fleur de Lumiére by Deanne Sabeck. What makes this bench extra special is that it was created through the NexTrex plastic bag recycling program! Waste, thin film plastic bags were transformed into durable outdoor materials, including the beautiful bench you’ll see at the park today. As a reminder, you can drop off your plastic bags at City Hall to help turn them into high-quality, long-lasting products like this one. Next time you’re at the corner of El Viento and North Granados, swing by, take a seat, and enjoy the art and sunshine on Solana Beach’s new recycled bench! | | Take Advantage of Federal Electrification Incentives | | | Did you know that electrification can reduce GHG emissions, improve your home's safety, and lower your energy bill long term? If you are interested in electrifying, now is the time to plug into these incentives! Due to warmer weather and standing water, there has been a noticeable increase in mosquito activity. To address this, the County Vector Control Program (VCP) has scheduled an aerial mosquito larvicide application for Wednesday, August 27th, and Thursday, August 28th. This method is a key part of the VCP's commitment to protecting both the community and the environment. by deploying helicopters to apply larvicide in areas where manual treatment isn't feasible.
