City Awards FY 2025/26 Community Grants

Since 2004, the City's Community Grants Program has helped local nonprofits launch and grow their programs that directly benefit the Solana Beach community. With City support, these nonprofits are able to provide meaningful services that strengthen, uplift, and connect residents. Demand for the program has steadily grown over time, with more and more organizations applying each cycle. This year’s FY 2025/26 cycle reached new heights, with a record 19 applications requesting a total of $107,500 in support.

Each organization had the opportunity to present their grant proposal at the June 2nd City Council Meeting. Following the presentations and a thorough review process, Council awarded $61,500 in grant funds to 14 local nonprofits. These awardees offer a wide range of services, from youth education and senior support to arts programming and essential resources. The City is proud to support their work and we look forward to seeing their programs in action this year.

Solana Beach Cares - Back to School Supply Drive

As part of our ongoing Solana Beach Cares Program, the City invites you to take part in our summer donation drive focused on supporting local students as they prepare for the upcoming school year! Throughout the month of July, we’ll be collecting essential back-to-school supplies to help set students up for success and ease the burden on families in need. From notebooks to backpacks, your donations will make a real difference. Drop-off bins are available at Solana Beach City Hall and the La Colonia Community Center during regular business hours. To best meet student needs, we kindly ask that donors stick to the approved supply list available on our website.

Help Keep Our Beaches Free of Trash This Summer

Do your part this summer to help keep our beaches clean and green as crowds head to the coast. Please do not leave trash behind at the beach. Tops have been added to trash bins at Fletcher Cove to encourage a “pack-in, pack-out” approach, especially for larger items like pizza boxes which can be placed in your green bins back home. Please be mindful of over-filling trash cans and remember to sort items correctly into the blue (recycling) and black (waste) bins. These small efforts go a long way in protecting the environment and keeping our beaches enjoyable for everyone.

Important Safety Reminders for Fourth of July

With Fourth of July celebrations coming up next week, the City reminds everyone to prioritize safety, respect city regulations, and be mindful of your surroundings and neighbors. Let’s make the holiday enjoyable for all by celebrating responsibly and respectfully. Whether you're gathering with family or enjoying time at the beach, a little consideration goes a long way in keeping our community safe and festive.

Beach Safety

It is almost time for the biggest beach holiday of the summer. The Solana Beach Lifeguards would like to share some beach safety tips to ensure a fun, safe holiday weekend. Be mindful of the steeper beach slope leading to a quick drop-off and potential shore break, so please watch your small children even near the shore. Always swim near a lifeguard, preferably in designated swim areas. Stay away from bluffs, overhangs, and caves. Always follow beach and park rules: no fireworks, alcohol, glass, smoking, drones, or beach camping. Have a safe and memorable Fourth of July in Solana Beach!

Pet Safety

Fireworks may be festive for us, but they can be terrifying for pets, and each year, many frightened animals end up lost or in shelters. Help protect your furry friends by ensuring they're microchipped and wearing ID tags with updated information, as well as securely leashed. Consider creating a calm, quiet space at home or speaking with your vet about stress-reducing options. To support responsible pet care, the San Diego Human Society is offering free microchipping and waiving dog license fees through July 2nd. Don't wait until it's too late, take steps now to keep your pet safe and sound this holiday.

Firework Safety

The City would like to remind everyone that all fireworks, including sparklers and poppers, are banned from use in Solana Beach, Encinitas, and Del Mar. Fireworks are unpredictable and dangerous, accounting for 44% of burn injuries in July. They also pose a serious fire hazard, with the potential to ignite structures and spark brushfires that threaten homes and natural areas. To enjoy fireworks safely, we encourage you to attend professional displays at Legoland or the San Diego County Fair. These events are conducted under strict safety protocols, offering a festive experience without the risk. Let's work together to keep Solana Beach safe!
