Scare Away Hunger Peanut Butter Drive | | During the month of October, the City of Solana Beach is excited to partner, once again, with the North County Food Bank for their Scare Away Hunger Peanut Butter Drive. We encourage you to support this campaign by donating unopened jars of peanut butter to help feed local children living in poverty. Why Peanut Butter? Peanut butter is an excellent source of protein for children and families. It is popular with kids, it’s shelf-stable and one jar can provide more than 12 sandwiches. There are two ways you can participate in the Scare Away Hunger Peanut Butter Drive. You can drop off donations at City Hall or you can make a donation securely online through the Virtual Food Drive platform. | | | Fire Prevention Week 2023 | | | The Solana Beach Fire Department is partnering with the National Fire Protection Association for Fire Prevention Week (FPW), promoting the theme "Cooking safety starts with YOU." Cooking is the primary cause of home fires and injuries in the United States, with unattended cooking being the leading cause. Residents are urged to embrace the 2023 FPW theme and offers safety tips, including closely monitoring cooking, turning pot handles away from the edge of the cooking surface, creating a safe zone around stoves, and having a lid ready for grease fires. Additionally, the Solana Beach Fire Department invites everyone to their Open House event on October 28th for family-friendly fun and fire safety awareness information and demonstrations. | | Free At-Home COVID-19 Tests | | Every household in the U.S. can again order FREE at-home COVID-19 tests. Testing can give you the information you need to protect yourself, your family, and others and slow the spread of the virus. Doctors and health officials are seeing a rise in COVID-19 cases and hospitalizations across San Diego County, and the latest set of subvariants is dominating the spread. Older populations remain among the most vulnerable to hospitalization and death, especially those over age 60, so doctors are advising young people to test themselves if they feel any symptoms and to stay home if they’re sick. At-home COVID-19 tests are convenient, fast, and available now! | | | Bulky-Item Cleanup Day is THIS SATURDAY! | | | Join us this SATURDAY for the Fall Bulky-Item Cleanup Day from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM in the La Colonia Community Center parking lot. The clean-up event will have mulch available for self-load/self-haul and certified shredding trucks that will shred all items on site. You can also drop off unwanted electronic and universal waste items, such as batteries, pesticides, lamps, and aerosol cans.
In addition, tomorrow is the last chance for Solana Beach residents to register in advance for free curbside pickup up to three bulky-items on the morning of October 7th. | | Learn How To Avoid Online Scams & Identity Theft | | Join the Solana Beach Civic & Historical Society for an essential program focusing on preventing online scams.
