High Surf Advisory

Dangerously large waves are expected to start today, January 5^th, into Friday, January 6^th. The waves at west-facing breaks (Del Mar, Solana Beach, Encinitas) could reach as high as 15 to 20 feet! Rip currents, longshore currents, and large surges of water will be extremely hazardous. Although it is expected to be dry tomorrow, runoff from today's storm will increase bacteria risk and hazards around the coast, even for onlookers. Tomorrow's high tide of 6.0 feet, around 8:00 AM, will increase coastal flooding and erosion risks. Please heed this warning, stay clear, and stay safe!

Sandbags Available to City Residents

With the current weather forecast calling for a strong winds and storm tonight, January 5^th, through tomorrow, January 6^th, the City has once again made sandbags available to City residents. The prefilled sandbags are available in the Solana Beach City Hall parking lot at 635 South Highway 101. Since there are a limited number of sandbags available, the City is asking that residents take no more than 7 sandbags. Please prepare accordingly as the rain may be heavy and the winds will be strong at times.

Only Rain Down the Storm Drain!

As we start to get more rain, let’s all do our part to help keep our beaches clean! Water that goes into the streets, gutters, and storm drains in our neighborhoods IS NOT TREATED before it reaches our local creeks, rivers, and the ocean. All sources of pollution, including soil and sediment, are prohibited from leaving your property and entering streets or storm drains. Only rainwater is allowed in the streets and storm drains.

Coastal Rail Line Closed this Weekend

To facilitate maintenance and improvements along the coastal rail corridor, there will be no COASTER service this weekend, January 7-8. No replacement bus service connecting COASTER stations will be available. Alternatives for some COASTER passengers may include BREEZE Route 101 or MTS connections. Coastal rail service will re-open for regularly scheduled service in time for the Monday morning commute. Passengers should note that trains may be delayed up to fifteen minutes on Monday.

Citizen Commission Openings

Applications will be accepted until January 17, 2023, which will be distributed to Council for consideration with the Agenda Packet on January 18, 2023. Appointments are scheduled to take place at the January 25, 2023 Council Meeting.
