San Diego Forward, SANDAG’s 2021 Regional Plan, provides a long-term blueprint for the San Diego region to meet regulatory requirements, address traffic congestion, and create equal access to jobs, education, healthcare, and other community resources. Since the Regional Plan must be updated every four years, the region has an opportunity to reassess how to plan for the future based on new population and economic growth forecasts, laws, and trends in technology. The Regional Plan is a 30-year document that answers questions like:
  • What do we want our region to look like in 2050 and beyond?
  • Where will we live?
  • How will we get around?
  • How can we grow in a way that fuels our economy, preserves our environment, takes everyone’s needs into account, and still maintains our quality of life?

San Diego Forward: The 2021 Regional Plan tackles these questions and provides a blueprint for a sustainable future for the San Diego region.

The draft 2021 Regional Plan is available for public review and comment until August 6, 2021. The plan can be found at the following link https://sdforward.com/mobility-planning/2021-regional-plan and the public is encouraged to provide comments back to SANDAG.

Please also note that SANDAG Staff will make a special presentation at the City Council meeting on July 14th at 6:00pm providing an overview of the 2021 Draft Regional Plan and answer questions. The City encourages everyone who is interested to attend (virtually) this event, and share your input.
