Fire season is now essentially year-round. With explosive fires occurring north of us, the City would like to remind you to please be vigilant over the next week at home and at work.
Weather Forecast
The dry/warm/windy conditions are expected to continue through Friday night and then taper off on Saturday. Another, stronger Santa-Ana condition is expected to form Late Sunday and persist through Wednesday with the strongest winds expected Monday into Tuesday. The forecast calls for strong winds, very low humidity levels with poor overnight recovery, and above average temperatures (80s along the coast, upper 80s inland). Red Flag conditions are expected to continue until late next week.
What You Can Do
- Mow before 10 a.m., but never when it’s windy or excessively dry. Lawnmowers are designed to mow lawns, not weeds or dry grass.
- Metal blades striking rocks can create sparks and start fires
- In wildland areas, spark arrestors are required on all portable gasoline-powered equipment. This includes tractors, harvesters, chainsaws, weed eaters and mowers.
- Residents should make sure they have 100 feet of defensible space around structures
- Remove leaves and needles from gutters
- Never pull a vehicle over in dry grass
