| City of Solana Beach WEEKLY UPDATE June 13, 2024 | | ACTION ITEM: Public Meeting - Tuesday, June 18th SANDAG Seeks Public Input on Potential Routes for LOSSAN Train Track Relocation | | Your input is important because this project now impacts Solana Beach! SANDAG has begun the next phase of the San Diego LOSSAN Rail Realignment project to move the tracks away from the coastal bluffs due to erosion and climate change. On June 4th, SANDAG released the Notice of Preparation for the Draft Environmental Impact Report (EIR), marking the start of a 45-day comment period consistent with state regulations.
Three alternatives are presented in the Notice of Preparation (NOP). Alternative A proposes tunneling in Solana Beach from Lomas Santa Fe to Via de la Valle, demolishing our current railroad trench to re-build a “cut and cover” tunnel deep enough to eventually go under the San Dieguito lagoon via the Fairgrounds. This Alternative will shut down all rail operations, the San Diego County Fair and impact our businesses and homes on S. Cedros for the 7 to 12 years it takes to build. The Public Meeting on June 18th is your chance to provide feedback and concerns regarding this Alternative as well as the others. This is your opportunity to get involved! Share your thoughts or suggest other Alternatives to be considered. Help identify the environmental and community impacts the project Alternatives could have on the City of Solana Beach, the Fairgrounds, and San Dieguito Lagoon.
You can provide input by showing up at the Scoping meeting, or sending in comments. The SANDAG public Scoping meeting on June 18th will be a chance for the community to ask questions and provide comments on the environmental process, engage with the project team, and ask questions. During the meeting staff will provide a brief presentation about the project and the new potential routes. The SANDAG LOSSAN Rail Realignment Public Meeting will be held this Tuesday, June 18th, from 6:00-7:30 PM at the San Diego Marriott Del Mar, located at 11966 El Camino Real, San Diego, CA 92130. Free parking will be provided.
If you cannot attend the meeting, you can still make your voice heard by submitting written comments in two ways: - By Mail: Address your comments to SANDAG, 401 B Street, Suite 800, San Diego, CA 92101, ATTN: Tim Pesce.
