Recently, the City Council entered into an agreement with Netly, LLC, to install a fiber-optic network throughout the City within the public right-of-way. To construct the complete network, which began several weeks ago, Netly will be installing underground fiber optic cables on all public streets. As part of the project, Netly will also install 16 above-ground cabinets, the locations of which were approved at the November 13, 2019, City Council meeting. The attached map shows the sequence/zones at which the work will be constructed.

There are 17 different construction phases, as shown on the map. There will be one above-ground cabinet installed in each phase, except Phase 3. Construction for Phase 3 will be performed by trenchless technology and consist of one starting and one receiving excavation areas (approximately 6 feet by 6 feet), one on each side of the freeway on Lomas Santa Fe. While the actual work is relatively un-impactful, one traffic lane needs to be closed during this operation. Due to the high volume of traffic on Lomas Santa Fe and the I-5 Freeway ramps, construction work for Phase 3 will be conducted at night. All traffic lanes will be operational by 6:00 am, well before the morning peak hours. This work is expected to last approximately five weeks, with the first two weeks allocated for surveying and mark-ups and the last week allocated for restoration and cleanup (two weeks of actual construction activity).

Construction in Phase 1 started in mid-January 2020 and is expected to be completed in mid-March 2020. Construction in Phase 2 began the first week of March 2020. The limits of Phase 2 are shown on the attached map and roughly consist of the Via Mil Cumbres neighborhood and the southern portion of the Santa Fe Hills neighborhood.
