The goal of a CCA is to provide a higher percentage of renewable energy electricity at competitive and potentially cheaper rates than the local Investor Owned Utility (IOU), San Diego Gas and Electric (SDG&E), while giving the community local control and promoting the development of renewable power sources, programs and local job growth. The City, along with its expert consultant team, has entered into Phases 2 and 3 of CCA program development, which includes finalizing the Implementation Plan and introducing an Ordinance to establish the CCA. It is important to emphasize that the adoption of the Ordinance and approval of the Implementation Plan does not commit the City to launching a CCA. The City Council can, at any point, stop the development and launch of the program. These are just the next required steps as the City moves through the process of potentially launching a CCA. As mentioned previously at City Council meetings, the City will continue to conduct public outreach on the rate comparisons, renewable energy percentage scenarios, financial safeguards and potential local programs based on community feedback.
