La Colonia Tot Lot Grand Re-Opening Highlights

On May 22nd, the City had the La Colonia Park Tot Lot Grand Re-Opening event that officially marked the opening of the long-awaited, newly renovated playground. This event was a huge success, with a fantastic turnout! Families enjoyed free snow cones from Kona Ice, face painting and balloon animals, “Kindness Rocks” painting station, live mariachi music, refreshments, and awesome giveaways.

The Solana Beach City Council and newly appointed City Manager, Alyssa Muto, were joined by Cipriano Vargas from Supervisor Lawson-Remer’s Office, Matt Rubel from Senator Blakespear’s Office, Ross Tritt from Assemblymember Boerner's Office, and Solana Vista student, Bailey Villaseñor and her younger sister Elyse Villaseñor, for the official ribbon-cutting ceremony. It was a heartwarming moment that symbolized our community's collective effort to revitalize this beloved playground.

The renovated playground is designed to be inclusive and accessible, ensuring children of all abilities can enjoy all of the play features. Wheelchair-accessible equipment, ground-level activities, and inclusive play elements are seamlessly integrated, promoting equity, diversity, and inclusion. This thoughtful design ensures every child can participate and enjoy the playground to the fullest.

We want to give a big shoutout to everyone who made this project possible: Van Dyke Landscape Architects; Great Western Recreation; Western Rim Constructors; the Parks and Recreation Team; and all community members who provided input during the design process.

Thank you to everyone who participated in this fun celebration and we look forward to families enjoying the La Colonia playground for many years to come!

Andrew Baker from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to celebrate the completion of the Encinitas-Solana Beach Sand Replenishment Project. This collaborative effort pumped over a million cubic yards of sand onto our beaches, resulting in wider beaches that not only fortify against erosion and storm impacts but have also expanded the recreational opportunities for our communities. We would like to thank everyone who helped make this project possible, including Rep. Mike Levin and his team, the City of Encinitas, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, and state and local officials.
