The City of Solana Beach is in the process of preparing a preliminary design for Lomas Santa Fe Drive from Highland Drive to Highway 101 to, among other things, improve the pedestrian and bicycling experience. The first phase of this project, which included a public walk audit, a workshop, and a Council meeting was completed in 2017. City Staff, with the help of professional consultants, used the information, recommendations, and feedback received from the first phase and prepared new design concepts that would make the corridor more user-friendly for all users, with emphasis on pedestrians and bicyclists. The new design concepts were presented at a community workshop on May 24, 2018.
At this time, the City is soliciting community input on the design concepts. All of the information presented at the community workshop is available on the City’s
website, which includes the PowerPoint presentation, the Community Workshop Questionnaire, aerial exhibits/layouts of the project and visual simulations. Note that there are two separate aerial exhibits/layouts for Lomas Santa Fe on the east side of the freeway (between I-5 and Highland Drive). One aerial exhibit/layout shows a
striping option, and the other shows an
option with roundabouts. The visual simulations for the roundabout options show how traffic would proceed through the roundabouts during peak traffic times. The City has also prepared an
FAQ for more information.
This project is at its early stage of design development. The City will continue engaging the community throughout future design phases and will continue to accept comments on the proposals. The Community Workshop Questionnaire form can be found
here. To have your comments included in the final report of community comments for Phase II of the project,
please provide your comments to the City no later than Friday, July 27, 2018 (Note, the comment period was extended a week). Completed surveys can be dropped off at City Hall (635 South Highway 101) or sent by e-mail to
dgoldberg@cosb.org.
It is expected that the Phase II findings will be presented to the City Council at the August 22, 2018, City Council meeting. Comments will still be accepted after July 27, 2018, but those comments may not be reflected in the report that is presented to Council in August 2018. They will, however, be submitted to Council prior to the Council meeting.
