Having trouble viewing this email? Click here to view in a browser Community News & Events Cafecito with a Cop Community Outreach is a top priority for the North Coastal Sheriff's Station. Come and meet with our bilingual Peace Officers, ask them questions and discuss any concerns you might have while enjoying complimentary coffee and pan dulce on Tuesday, January 17th from 11:00 AM to 12:30 PM, at the La Colonia Community Center. The Sheriff’s Department regularly hosts “Coffee with the Community” to give the public a chance to chat in a casual setting over a free cup of coffee. No speeches, no agenda, just casual conversation.  View Event Another Round of Dangerous High Surf Another round of dangerous high surf will be taking place this Friday through Sunday. When the peak swell arrives in the later part of the morning on Friday, it could produce waves running up to 15 feet with some standout locations seeing waves of up to 20 feet. Lifeguards recommend that only expert surfers enter the ocean during these conditions. Please know your limits! Beach walking during these high surf events is also not recommended as it can be very dangerous, even during low tide. When in doubt, talk to a lifeguard about beach and water safety. Read More Sandbags Available to City Residents With the forecast indicating heavy rain again beginning tomorrow, January 13th, and lasting through the weekend, the City has once again made sandbags available to City residents. The prefilled sandbags are available in the Solana Beach City Hall parking lot at 635 South Highway 101. Since there are a limited number of sandbags available, the City is asking that residents take no more than 7 sandbags. Please prepare accordingly as the rain may be heavy and the winds will be strong at times.  Learn More Report an Issue with the City’s My Community App The City has many different digital platforms intended to help residents stay connected and engaged. The Solana Beach My Community App is a cloud-based mobile platform that allows residents and visitors to report location-specific concerns such as potholes, graffiti, or other matters of concern directly from their smartphone or tablet. Issues reported through the My Community App will be assigned to appropriate City Staff based on the specific complaint type, and residents and visitors will be able to follow up on the progress of the corrective action. The City of Solana Beach My Community App is available in the iTunes Store (iPhone) and Google Play Store (Android) for download. Learn More Citizen Commission Openings Applications will be accepted until January 17, 2023, which will be distributed to Council for consideration with the Agenda Packet on January 18, 2023. Appointments are scheduled to take place at the January 25, 2023 Council Meeting. • BUDGET & FINANCE: Three (3) vacancies - terms will expire end of January 2025 • CLIMATE ACTION: Five (3) vacancies – terms will expire end of January 2025 • PARKS & RECREATION: Four (4) vacancies – terms will expire end of January 2025 • PUBLIC ARTS: Four (4) vacancies – terms will expire end of January 2025 • VIEW ASSESSMENT: Three (3) vacancies – terms will expire end of January 2025 Learn More City Hall Holiday Closure In observance of Martin Luther King Jr. Day, City Hall and all non-essential City buildings will be closed on Monday, January 16, 2023. Regular hours will resume on Tuesday, January 17, 2023. Essential City services and emergency response will be available during this time. Public Meetings City Council meetings are held in-person in the Council Chambers at City Hall. All meetings are also subject to cancellation. Having trouble viewing this email? Click here to view in a browser Community News High Surf Advisory Dangerously large waves are expected to start today, January 5th, into Friday, January 6th. The waves at west-facing breaks (Del Mar, Solana Beach, Encinitas) could reach as high as 15 to 20 feet! Rip currents, longshore currents, and large surges of water will be extremely hazardous. Although it is expected to be dry tomorrow, runoff from today's storm will increase bacteria risk and hazards around the coast, even for onlookers. Tomorrow's high tide of 6.0 feet, around 8:00 AM, will increase coastal flooding and erosion risks. Please heed this warning, stay clear, and stay safe! Read More Sandbags Available to City Residents With the current weather forecast calling for a strong winds and storm tonight, January 5th, through tomorrow, January 6th, the City has once again made sandbags available to City residents. As we start to get more rain, let’s all do our part to help keep our beaches clean! Water that goes into the streets, gutters, and storm drains in our neighborhoods IS NOT TREATED before it reaches our local creeks, rivers, and the ocean. All sources of pollution, including soil and sediment, are prohibited from leaving your property and entering streets or storm drains. Only rainwater is allowed in the streets and storm drains. To report storm water pollution, or if you have questions about storm water run-off from your own property, please call (858) 720-4424 or email stormwater@cosb.org. Learn More Coastal Rail Line Closed this Weekend To facilitate maintenance and improvements along the coastal rail corridor, there will be no COASTER service this weekend, January 7-8. No replacement bus service connecting COASTER stations will be available. Alternatives for some COASTER passengers may include BREEZE Route 101 or MTS connections. Coastal rail service will re-open for regularly scheduled service in time for the Monday morning commute. Passengers should note that trains may be delayed up to fifteen minutes on Monday. City Council Meetings January 11, 2023 Agenda Notice To Watch the Meeting Live Web-Streaming: Meetings web-stream live on the City's website on the City's Public Meetings webpage. Find the blue Live Meeting link.  Live Broadcast on Local Govt. Channel: Meetings are broadcast live on Cox Communications - Channel 19 / Spectrum (Time Warner) - Channel 24 / AT&T U-verse Channel 99.  Archived Videos Online: The video taping of meetings are maintained as a permanent record and contain a detailed account of the proceedings. Council meeting tapings are archived and available for viewing on the City's Public Meetings webpage. Public Participation Written Correspondence: (supplemental items) regarding an agenda item at an open session meeting should be submitted to the City Clerk's Office at clerkoffice@cosb.org with: a) Subject line to include the meeting date, b) Include the Agenda Item # as listed on the Agenda. Correspondence received after the official posting of the agenda, but before 3:00 p.m. (or 3 hrs. prior to the meeting start time) on the meeting day, will be distributed to Council and made available online along with the agenda posting. Written submittals will be made part of the record but not read out loud.  The designated location for viewing supplemental documents is on the posted Agenda under the relative Agenda Item. And/Or Verbal Comment Participation: Please submit a speaker slip to the City Clerk prior to the meeting, or the announcement of the Section/Item, to provide public comment. Allotted times for speaking are outlined on the speaker’s slip for each agenda section: Oral Communications - 3 minutes Consent, Public Hearings and Staff Reports - Public speakers have 3 minutes each to speak on each topic. Time may be donated by another individual, who is present at the meeting, to allow the speaker up to 6 minutes. Public Hearings: In addition to the above allotted times, applicants and their representatives will receive 15 minutes.
