New Official City Domain Launches Tomorrow!

Starting tomorrow, January 16th, the City of Solana Beach will be using its new official .ca.gov domain. As part of this transition, the City’s new website domain will now be cityofsolanabeach.ca.gov, and all City staff will begin using new email addresses ending in @cityofsolanabeach.ca.gov. This change is part of a statewide modernization effort to improve security, accessibility, and trust for California government services. All existing website links and emails sent to @cosb.org will continue to work and automatically redirect during the transition.

Business Certificate Renewals Reminder

Time is running out to renew your Business Certificate! The 2026 renewal deadline is January 31st. All 2025 business certificates expired on December 31, 2025. Businesses that do not renew their certificates by the deadline will have their account closed, requiring a new business application (which is a higher fee) to continue operations. The City has made this renewal much easier adding an online submittal option for renewal applications! Renewal can also be submitted in person at the Finance Counter, dropped off in the dropbox outside City Hall, or mailed with a postmark dated no later than January 31st. Don’t wait till the last minute and renew today!

City's First Clothing Swap Event was a Success!

Last Saturday, the community swapped ’til they dropped at our first-ever Solana Beach Clothing Swap at La Colonia Community Park. Community members brought in gently used items of clothing that they no longer reach for in their closets and swapped them for new-to-them pieces to wear. More than 30 residents participated, helping divert 342.8 pounds of clothing from the landfill. We hope to make this an annual event so keep this in mind when setting aside items. Thank you to everyone who joined in and helped keep Solana Beach clean and green!

Green Reminder:

Keep Plastic Bags Out of Recycling & Organics Bins

Friendly reminder that plastic bags do not go in recycling or organics carts. EDCO conducts routine audits of residential and commercial trash, recycling, and organics routes throughout the City. One of the most common contaminants found in both recycling and organics bins is plastic bags. If you collect recyclables or compostable items in plastic bags, such as trash bags, please empty the contents directly into the bin and ensure the plastic bag does not go inside. Consider switching to paper bags which are accepted in both recycling and organics carts.

Volunteers Needed for the

2026 Point-in-Time Count!

Each January, over 1,700 volunteers across San Diego County come together for the #WeAllCount Point-in-Time Homelessness Census, a one-night effort to better understand and address homelessness in our community. Organized by the Regional Task Force on Homelessness, this initiative gathers vital data to shape resources and services that help those in need. This year’s count takes place on Thursday, January 29th, from 4:00 AM to 8:00 AM, with volunteers needed for the Solana Beach area. Sign up today to help build a stronger, more compassionate community.

Upcoming City Hall Holiday Closure

In honor of Martin Luther King Jr. Day, City Hall and all non-essential City buildings will be closed on Monday, January 19th. On this day, we take a moment to honor and recognize Dr. King’s lasting legacy and impact. Regular hours will resume on Tuesday, January 20th.

Please note: EDCO will not experience any service delays. All service collections will occur as regularly scheduled.

Public Works Updates

Fletcher Cove Improvements Nearing Completion

The Fletcher Cove improvements are almost complete! The replacement of the beach access ramp has been completed, including the new concrete ramp, the asphalt walkway immediately south of the ramp, the concrete curb, metal handrail, and access gate. Improvements to both the existing shower area and the new shower area at the bottom of the ramp have also been completed.

Only one final project item remains. The dissipater storm drain grate at the bottom of the ramp is scheduled to be installed by the end of January 2026. Beach access will remain open throughout construction, allowing the community to continue enjoying Fletcher Cove while these final upgrades are completed.

These improvements were paid for in part by Measure S funding. The City thanks the community for supporting the sales tax measure and is excited to continue making these important infrastructure upgrades utilizing this vital funding mechanism.

2025-2026 Paving Project Update

The City’s Annual Citywide Pavement Rehabilitation Project has successfully resurfaced all planned roadways for the 2025-2026 paving cycle. One remaining item is the upgrade of traffic signal cabinets and controllers along Lomas Santa Fe Drive, west of Interstate 5. This work is scheduled for April 2026. Temporary traffic detour signage will be installed near the work area to help keep the community informed during construction.
