Citizen Commission Openings

Are you interested in making a positive impact in your community? The City is now recruiting volunteers for its five citizen commissions: Budget & Finance, Climate Resiliency, Parks & Recreation, Public Arts, and View Assessment. With 16 vacancies available for a two-year term expiring in January 2028, this is your chance to get involved and help shape the future of our community. Applications are due by Tuesday, January 20, 2026, at 5:30 PM to the City Clerk’s Office. Don’t miss this opportunity to contribute your voice and expertise.

Holiday Tree Recycling Program

Residents who are ready to recycle their Holiday trees and botanical decorations can place them inside your green organics waste cart on your collection day. When placing them inside your curbside green cart make sure to first remove all lights, ornaments, tinsel, and the tree stand, cut tree into small enough pieces to fit within your curbside cart (the lid must be able to close), and no flocked trees. Drop-off sites will also be available through January 16th at Solana Beach City Hall, and La Colonia Community Center parking lot.

Heat Pump Water Heater Rebate Program

Did you know heat pump water heaters are about three times more efficient than gas water heaters and reduce safety risks by eliminating the potential for gas leaks? To support residents in making this upgrade, the City is offering a $500 rebate for Solana Beach residents and contractors who install a heat pump water heater to replace an existing gas unit. This rebate helps lower the upfront cost of heat pump technology while supporting the transition away from fossil-fuel appliances that release greenhouse gases toward cleaner, electric alternatives.

Coastal Rail Services Suspended for

Two Weekends in January

The North County Transit District (NCTD) will suspend all coastal rail services between San Diego and Oceanside for two weekends in March to perform routine railroad maintenance and major infrastructure work. The first coastal rail line closure will occur this weekend, Saturday, January 10th, and Sunday, January 11th, and the second will occur Saturday, January 24th, and Sunday, January 25th. Riders are urged to plan ahead and make alternative travel arrangements.

"Solana-by-the-Sea"

The Solana Beach Public Arts Commission invites you to attend the opening reception for the first City Hall Gallery exhibit of the year this Sunday, January 11th, from 2:00 to 4:00 PM. "Solana-by-the-Sea" is a solo exhibition by artist Tina Christiansen that offers a painterly exploration of the unique seaside experience of Solana Beach.
