New Official City Domain Coming Soon

The City will soon transition to a new official and secure .ca.gov domain. As part of this update, the City’s website will move to cityofsolanabeach.ca.gov, and all City staff will begin using new email addresses ending in @cityofsolanabeach.ca.gov. This change is part of a statewide modernization effort to improve security, accessibility, and trust for California government services and will take place over the coming weeks and no later than early January 2026. All existing website links and emails sent to @cosb.org will continue to work and automatically redirect during the transition.

New Interim Fire Chief Appointed to Serve

Solana Beach and Del Mar

The City of Solana Beach is pleased to welcome Colin Stowell as our new Interim Fire Chief. Chief Stowell will serve both Solana Beach and the City of Del Mar as the two communities work together to develop a new fire protection service model following the conclusion of a regional cooperative agreement that previously included the City of Encinitas. He brings more than 20 years of fire service leadership experience, beginning his career with the City of San Diego in 2002, promoting through the ranks, and retiring as Fire Chief in 2024. His appointment was unanimously approved by the Solana Beach City Council at its December 10th meeting. We thank Chief Stowell for stepping into this role and look forward to sharing more updates with the community in early 2026.

Christmas Tree Recycling

Residents can recycle Christmas trees and Holiday botanical decorations by placing them inside your green organics waste cart on your collection day. When placing them inside your curbside green cart make sure to first remove all lights, ornaments, tinsel, and the tree stand, cut tree into small enough pieces to fit within your curbside cart (the lid must be able to close), and no flocked trees. Drop-off sites will also be available starting from December 26th through January 16th at City Hall, at 635 S. Hwy 101, and La Colonia Community Center parking lot, at 715 Valley Avenue.

Solana Beach Clothing Swap

Saturday, January 10th, 10:00 AM

Refresh your wardrobe and come swap with the City of Solana Beach! The City will be hosting a community clothing swap this new year to encourage sustainable fashion and prevent clothing from ending up in the landfill. Join us on Saturday, January 10th at 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM with up to 15 clean and good-condition clothing items. You can meet new people, chat with the community, and bring home a new outfit!

City Hall Extended Holiday Closure

In observance of the upcoming Holidays, City Hall and all non-essential City buildings will be closed from Friday, December 19th, (Dark Friday) through Friday, January 2th (Dark Friday). All other essential City services and emergency response will continue during this period. A complete list of emergency contacts and information about services affected by this closure is available on the City’s website. Regular City Hall hours will resume on Monday, January 5th. We wish you a wonderful holiday season and a Happy New Year!

Trash Service Schedule Changes for the Holidays

As a community reminder, the trash service schedule will be adjusted for the next two weeks in observance of the Christmas and New Year’s holidays. EDCO will not provide residential or commercial collection on Thursday, December 25th, or Thursday, January 1st, and all public disposal sites, recycling buyback centers, and customer service offices will be closed. As a result, customers whose regular collection day is Thursday or Friday will experience a one-day service delay during each holiday week. Please remember to plan accordingly.
