| City of Solana Beach WEEKLY UPDATE August 29, 2025 | | Fletcher Cove Improvements Begin Next Week | | | We’re excited to share that construction for the Fletcher Cove Improvements Project will begin after Labor Day weekend and continue through December 2025. This project, made possible by Measure S funding, will enhance one of our community’s most treasured spaces. Improvements include an upgraded beach access ramp and walkway with new handrailing, new shower area at the bottom of the ramp along with additional shower heads at the current shower area for easy post-beach cleanups, and an upgraded storm drain dissipator grate. Beach access will remain open throughout construction, ensuring the community can continue to enjoy Fletcher Cove while these upgrades are underway. Signage will also be posted to keep everyone updated during the project timeline. | | City Hall Pollinator Garden Update | | | Have you noticed the changes in the front of City Hall? The Pollinator Friendly City Subcommittee of the Climate & Resiliency Commission has joined forces with the SeaWeeders, Water's Path Landscape Design/Hidden Agave, and the City's Public Works department to create a pollinator garden. The boulders and irrigation have been installed this past month. Pollinator gardens are important because they provide food and habitat for pollinators such as bees and butterflies, that support plant production and a healthier ecosystem. Look out for pollinator plants this upcoming fall! | | Upcoming Southbound I-5 Weekend Closure | | | Heads up, drivers! As part of the I-5 Asset Management Project, Caltrans will be closing all lanes of southbound I-5 between SR-52 to Mission Bay Drive from Friday, September 5th at 10:00 PM through Monday, September 8th at 5:00 AM. Crews will be working on important road and culvert improvements to help keep our freeway in good shape. This is the first of six weekend closures planned in the area to maintain and improve infrastructure. Detours will be in place, so please plan extra travel time if you’re heading south as there will be delays. Portable message signs will be placed along the routes advising of the closure and suggesting alternate routes. For real-time updates, visit Caltrans QuickMap. | | Via De La Valle Paving Road Closure | | | Via De La Valle is getting a much needed road makeover! Pavement work has been tentatively scheduled for September 8th and 9th along Via De La Valle, from east of San Andres Drive to Jimmy Durante Blvd. Work will take place overnight between 9:00 PM and 5:00 AM. During this time, lane closures will be in effect, and nearby residents may notice some construction noise and lighting. This paving is part of the City of San Diego’s improvement projects, and the City will continue coordinating with Caltrans on additional upgrades in the area, including traffic signal improvements and pedestrian ramp enhancements at the I-5 connections. | | Holiday Observance - Labor Day | | | In observance of the Labor Day holiday, City Hall and all non-essential City buildings will be closed on Monday, September 1st. Regular hours will resume on Tuesday, September 2nd.
