The park fills up fast, so grab your low-back beach chairs, blankets, and get there early to snag a prime spot. Planning a picnic? Support our local businesses by picking up your favorites from nearby restaurants and stores, and if you can, come “car-free” to enjoy a hassle-free evening by the beach! | | | TONIGHT'S grand finale of the 2024 Concert at the Cove series will feature "The Destroyers". While sailors might not be the first to come to mind when you think of rock music, "The Destroyers" will shatter those expectations. As Navy Band Southwest’s premier Popular Music Group, their high-energy and crowd-pleasing sets will have everyone dancing and swaying along. Don't miss this memorable way to finish off the summer! | | Have you come across a colorful painted rock in Solana Beach? These are Kindness Rocks, which are part of a fun community project that is all about kindness, caring, and community. This Kindness Rock beautification project is just one piece of Solana Beach’s larger commitment to kindness. In 2019, the City adopted a resolution to become a “City of Kindness,” pledging to foster a culture of caring across all parts of the community – from City government to schools, businesses, and beyond. Residents have painted these rocks at Fiesta del Sol and the La Colonia Tot Lot Grand Re-Opening, and now they’re featured in kindness rock gardens at La Colonia Park and the Pinion sculpture on N. Cedros Avenue. Next time you’re strolling through town, take a moment to appreciate the kindness that’s quite literally been set in stone. If you are feeling inspired, join the movement and paint a rock of your own to add to the rock garden next time you visit the park! | | Solana Beach Hosts Back-to-Back Bike Safety Events | | Last week, Solana Beach was buzzing with back-to-back bike events! On Monday, July 29th, the San Diego County Bike Coalition (SDCBC) hosted an in-person workshop for seniors, covering everything from road rules to fall prevention. The momentum continued on Thursday, August 1st, with a surprise Bike Rodeo for the Summer Day Camp kids at La Colonia Park. Nearly 40 kids zoomed through interactive stations, tackled obstacle courses, learned essential safety tips, including the "ABCs" of bike riding, got their helmets fitted, and had their bikes inspected The City is committed to bike safety education for all ages, recognizing its crucial role in fostering a safer community by offering specialized workshops for seniors and engaging activities for young riders. From the youngest cyclists to the most experienced, the City wants to make sure all riders are equipped with the knowledge and skills needed for safe biking. These events not only address immediate safety concerns but also help build a culture of awareness and responsibility across generations. | | Wildlife Jewels' "Beach Cleanup Walk" | | | Join us for the Wildlife Beach Cleanup Walk with Wildlife Jewels on Sunday, August 25, at 11:00 AM. Take part in an impactful day to remove debris from our beautiful shores while learning about the local wildlife that you’re helping to protect. Discover simple steps you can take to safeguard our coastal ecosystem and beaches. This event is part of the Sweep for Wildlife program, aimed at cleaning our beach and educating our community about our native wildlife, the dangers they face from debris, and how we can all play a role in their protection. The event is free, but space is limited and pre-registration is required. We encourage you to bring your own bucket or reusable bag, along with gloves. Register today and make a difference! | | Beach Blanket Movie Night | | | As summer comes to an end, and with the start of school on August 12th for many of our kids, we invite you to join us for the annual Beach Blanket Movie Night (BBMN) on Saturday, August 10th, from 6-10 PM. Grab a blanket, pack a picnic, and head on down to Fletcher Cove Park for a fun-filled evening and a movie under the stars!
