The Solana Beach Public Arts Commission is pleased to offer four distinct call for artists opportunities. We invite artists to apply to these opportunities, to showcase their work and contribute to the vibrant public art scene in Solana Beach.

Fletcher Cove Storm Drain Beautification Project

The City has reopened the application period for the Fletcher Cove Storm Drain Beautification Project. This initiative aims to enhance the storm drain structure at Fletcher Cove Beach by replacing the old metal outlet grate with a new, visually appealing design. Public artists are invited to submit proposals for a captivating grate design that will improve the structure’s aesthetics. Please note that artists will not be responsible for manufacturing or installing the grate; the selected design will serve as a conceptual blueprint for the final product.

Artist Stipend: $2,000 stipend for a conceptual design

Submission Deadline: Friday, August 23rd by 5:30 PM

Temporary Public Arts Program 2024-2026

The Solana Beach Public Arts Commission invites public artists to submit sculptures for the upcoming 2024-2026 Temporary Public Arts Program Exhibition. This is a fantastic opportunity for artists to showcase their work in a high-traffic urban, ocean-view environment, attracting both residents and tourists. Artists are invited to submit sculptures of various sizes for consideration in this two-year exhibition. The program aims to select five pieces to be displayed at highly visible, designated temporary public art sites throughout our beautiful coastal community.

Artist Stipend: $3,000 stipend for a two-year loan

New Solana Beach Street Banner Designs

The City is seeking public artists to submit design proposals for a new set of City of Solana Beach street banners. The Street Banner Program is a key element of the City's promotional efforts. The current City banners need a refresh to maintain the city's aesthetic appeal and promotional impact. and the Public Arts Commission aims to refresh the current banners to better reflect Solana Beach’s diverse values and interests. The new banners will highlight five key themes: Active Transportation, Arts & Culture, City of Kindness, Environmental Sustainability, and Shop & Dine Local.

Artist Stipend: $5,000 stipend for a cohesive set of 20 banners designs

City Hall Gallery Program 2025 Exhibitions

The Public Arts Commission invites you to submit applications for the 2025 City Hall Gallery exhibitions. We're on the lookout for captivating individual or group art and educational exhibitions to be featured throughout the year. With six exhibitions planned, each spanning 8 weeks, here's your opportunity to make a lasting impression on the vibrant Solana Beach art scene. Artists should be prepared with an ample body of work, they are encouraged to take a tour of the space and be familiar with the wall space in order to fill the designated areas.
