Coastal Rail Line Closed This Weekend for Routine Maintenance  No COASTER service in San Diego County January 28-29 to facilitate regular maintenance and infrastructure improvements. There will be no COASTER service in San Diego County this weekend on Saturday, January 28, 2023, and Sunday, January 29, 2023, to facilitate regular maintenance and infrastructure improvements along the coastal rail corridor. Weekend closures like these, referred to as Absolute Work Windows (AWWs), occur periodically during the year on a pre-determined schedule. AWWs provide construction crews the opportunity to work safely and unimpeded on and along the rail line to perform improvements and maintenance work. No replacement bus service connecting COASTER stations will be available. Alternatives for some COASTER passengers may include BREEZE Route 101 or MTS connections. After this weekend’s closure, COASTER will resume regularly scheduled service on Monday, January 30, 2023. Passengers should note that trains may be delayed up to fifteen minutes on Monday. After this weekend’s closure, coastal rail service will re-open for regularly scheduled service in time for the Monday morning commute. While no passenger rail service will be available during this weekend closure, other vehicles and equipment will operate along the railroad right-of-way and on the rail at non-specified times. Residents along the corridor should remain alert at legal crossings, and not trespass on the railroad right-of-way. Customers are urged to plan ahead and make alternative travel arrangements. Please join us Sunday, February 5th, from 11:00 AM to 1:30 PM, for the City Hall Gallery reception "3 Artists. 3 Points of View." Fused glass artist Jacqueline Bridge showcases her unique collection that honors women, mystery and solidarity. Self-trained painter and Solana Beach resident Judy Moffson highlights her love of Neo-Expressionism by featuring her bold and colorful "Monsters and Friends" collection and "Red Man" collection. Clay Maker Ingrid Hoffmeister follows her inner visions and imagination and showcases her "out of the box" clay and ceramic sculpture collection. Light refreshments will be served. Learn More Meet & Greet County Supervisor Terra Lawson-Remer District 3 County Supervisor Terra Lawson-Remer will be holding a “Solana Beach Neighborhood Meet & Greet” on Monday, February 13th. This event is co-hosted by the Solana Beach Chamber of Commerce, Boys and Girls Clubs of San Dieguito, and the San Diego Organizing Project. The Meet & Greet will take place at the Solana Beach Boys & Girls Club at 6:15 PM. This is a great opportunity to come and discuss the issues that are most important to you and your family, and meet your County Supervisor! Learn More Fletcher Cove Ramp Pedestrian Walkway Closure Minor work is under way to repair an existing storm drain junction box located on the pedestrian walkway along the south side of the Fletcher Cove beach access ramp. This work, which began on Wednesday, January 25th, requires the closure of the pedestrian walkway for several days. Every effort will be made to open the walkway for weekend traffic. During this closure, pedestrians may use the vehicular side of the ramp to access the beach. Please pay attention to repair crews and to emergency vehicles while using the ramp at all times. Learn More New Changes to Three Feet for Safety Act For nearly a decade, California motorists have been required to maintain a distance of 3 feet when passing bicyclists. In September 2022, Governor Gavin Newsom approved the OmniBike Bill AB 1909 that modifies the vehicle code to make people on bikes safer on California streets. This new law, which went into effect on January 1, 2023, will require drivers to change lanes, when possible, to provide more space to bicyclists as they pass. It requires drivers to create extra space between their vehicles and any surrounding bicycles on the roadway, reducing the risk of near misses or collisions. Having trouble viewing this email? Click here to view in a browser Community News & Events New Fletcher Cove Tot Lot Coming Soon! Good news! The new Fletcher Cove tot lot will be breaking ground in the very near future. Thanks to the community for providing important feedback in designing this project. The improvements will include new play equipment that will have inclusive play opportunities, new play surfacing, and associated landscape areas and furnishings. Construction of the project is expected to begin this Spring 2023 and will be completed this Summer. Stay tuned for more information on the replacement of the La Colonia Park Tot Lot, which has also been approved by the City Council. We are excited to begin construction of these much-needed improvements at both of our local parks. Learn More Safe Routes to School On January 11th, the City Council officially approved the City's Safe Routes to School (SRTS) Plan! Thanks to everyone who participated in the workshops and those who provided feedback. The SRTS program aims to create safer, more comfortable and accessible routes for Solana Beach schoolchildren, their families, and residents to walk, bike, or roll to school. The City, in partnership with the local Elementary, Middle, and High Schools, and the local Boys and Girls Club, now has its own, customized Solana Beach Safe Routes To School Plan!
