After posting a case rate of more than 7.0 cases per 100,000 residents for two consecutive weeks, the state is placing the County of San Diego in the Purple Tier (Widespread Risk Level), the most restrictive level of the State’s Blueprint for a Safer Economy that limits activities based on the risk of spreading COVID-19.

The County’s case rate increased to 7.4, then 8.9 over the past two weeks; therefore, the region must stop indoor operations at restaurants, gyms, churches, and movie theaters starting Saturday, November 14th. Retailers will need to keep customers at 25% of capacity. The County will remain in the Purple Tier for at least three weeks. It won’t advance to the Red Tier unless it posts a case rate below 7.0 cases per 100,000 residents two weeks in a row.

In the last four weeks alone, Solana Beach has seen an increase of 31 confirmed cases, an average of close to eight new cases per week. This underscores the importance of remaining vigilant in our observation of public health protocols including wearing face coverings, social distancing and avoiding gatherings. Observation of these basic and effective protocols will help us to avoid even further restrictions on business and personal activities in the future.
