Virtual Veterans Day Ceremony 2020

Virtual Veterans Day Ceremony 2020
Veterans Day 2020 – Honoring America’s Veterans for their patriotism, love of country & willingness to serve, and sacrifice for the common good!
Due to COVID-19, the City will not hold our annual Veterans Day ceremony at La Colonia Park this year. Instead, the City and the Solana Beach Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Post 5431 invite everyone to participate virtually in this year’s live ceremony at the Balboa Park Veterans Museum, held on Wednesday, November 11, at 10:00 am. To view the event, please visit www.sdvetparade.org in advance to enroll.

Veterans Day reflects a very special time for our community, and the City recognizes all of our resident veterans and VFW members for their outstanding service. We encourage everyone to take a few minutes to visit our local memorials, at La Colonia Park and in the Solana Beach Plaza, and remember all our veterans who have done so much for our community. We will always appreciate the sacrifices made by them to ensure our freedoms.

County of San Diego Guidance for Celebrating Halloween during the COVID-19 Pandemic

San Diego County offers Halloween Guidance and discourages traditional trick-or-treating
Safely Celebrating Halloween and Día de los Muertos
Many traditional Halloween and Día de los Muertos activities can be high-risk for spreading viruses. To minimize the spread of COVID-19 and ensure children have a fun, safe holiday, the County of San Diego offers guidance for the most common activities to protect you and your loved ones.

Trick-or-treating can be difficult to do while maintaining social distancing, and haunted houses can be dangerous because they typically involve several people in a tight and poorly ventilated space. If you may have COVID-19 or have been exposed to someone with COVID-19, you should not participate in in-person Halloween festivities and should not give candy to trick-or-treaters.

Consider these lower-risk activities:

Halloween
  • Carve pumpkins at home with family. Or, make your gourd masterpieces, outside, at a safe distance, with neighbors or friends
  • Decorate your home
  • Have a Halloween scavenger hunt in or around your home.
  • Join a virtual Halloween costume contest
  • Watch scary movies with family

Día de los Muertos
  • Prepare traditional family recipes for family and neighbors and deliver the meals in a way that doesn’t involve contact with others
  • Play music in your home that your deceased loved ones enjoyed
  • Make and decorating masks or build an altar for the deceased
  • Set out pillows and blankets in your home for the deceased
  • Join a virtual get-together celebration
