Community Events

Free “First On The Scene” Life-Saving Skills Training

Acquire vital life-saving skills at the Rancho Santa Fe Fire Station this Saturday, November 18th, from 8:30 AM to 12:00 PM. During this event, you'll have the opportunity to learn and practice essential life-saving skills at absolutely no cost. This special program has been developed by the International Association of Fire Chiefs and will be administered by the National Association of Emergency Medical Technicians (NAEMT). It's open to participants 14 years of age and up. Space is limited, so make sure to secure your spot by registering before the event. Don't miss this chance to equip yourself with life-saving skills that can make a difference.

"Consciousness: Making the Unseen Seen"

Join the City and the Public Arts Commission on Saturday, November 18th from 3:30 PM - 5:30 PM, to celebrate the opening of Patti Andre's first solo exhibit. Prepare to be enchanted by the vibrant and colorful world of California-based life photography artist and portrait creator, Patti Andre. The newest City Hall Gallery exhibit "Consciousness: Making the Unseen Seen" is a treasure trove of visual delight, encompassing an array of genres, each brimming with captivating subjects and creativity. Her unique approach to digital image processing, composition, and ease with subjects continues to set her work apart from others.

SeaWeeders' Annual Poinsettia Sale

The Solana Beach Garden Club, known as the SeaWeeders, is hosting its 11th Annual Poinsettia Sale fundraiser! They are once again offering beautiful, locally grown red Ecke Prestige Poinsettias in 6-inch pots for $12 and assorted colors of Christmas Cactus in 6-inch pots for $10 each. Quantities are limited, so pre-order your plants TODAY to guarantee availability! Unreserved plants will be offered during their fundraiser event sale on Saturday, November 25th, from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM. Elevate your holiday decor while supporting a cause that benefits public gardens in our community. All proceeds contribute to beautification projects in Solana Beach.

Fletcher Cove Holiday Tree Lighting

To celebrate the start of the holiday season, the City and the Solana Beach Parks and Recreation Commission invite you to join your friends and neighbors for the annual Holiday Tree Lighting event at Fletcher Cove Park on Sunday, December 3rd, starting at 4:30 PM. Once the tree's light switch is flipped, all eyes turn to watch for Santa's arrival by fire-truck escort! Children will have the chance to ask Santa for that most important gift and to remind him just how good they've been all year! There will be live music and cookies, cider, and treats.

La Colonia Park Holiday Tree Lighting

The City and La Colonia Community Foundation invite you to a special La Colonia Park Holiday Tree Lighting event on Saturday, December 9th, at 5:00 PM. Join your friends and neighbors at historic La Colonia Park to celebrate the holiday season. There will be plenty of sweets, treats, and Mexican hot cocoa to go along with all the fun, including traditional holiday aguinaldos treat bags for the children, and delicious pan dulce (Mexican sweet bread). Santa will make another appearance and children will have the chance to ask him for that most important gift and to remind him just how good they’ve been all year.

Santa's Sleigh Ride Parade

Back once again by popular demand, the City of Solana Beach and the Solana Beach Parks and Recreation Commission are excited to invite you to join us to watch Santa's Sleigh Ride Parade! Santa will be riding along with Fire, Sheriff and Marine Safety personnel. The Sleigh Ride will be starting and ending at the Solana Beach Fire Station, located at 500 Lomas Santa Fe Drive. Thanksgiving Holiday Observances

City Hall Closure

EDCO Residential Service Delay

Solana Beach City Hall and all non-essential City buildings will be closed on Thursday, November 23rd and Friday, November 24th in observance of the Thanksgiving holiday. Regular hours will resume on Monday, November 27th. Have a wonderful holiday!

In observance of the Thanksgiving holiday, EDCO's residential collection service will not be performed on Thursday, November 23rd. Residents with a trash pickup scheduled for Thursday or after will have a one-day residential delay in service this week.

Citizen Commission Openings

The City is actively seeking volunteers for five vital citizen commissions—Budget & Finance, Climate Action, Parks & Recreation, Public Arts, and View Assessment. With 16 vacancies for two-year terms expiring in January 2026, now is your chance to make a difference. The deadline for submitting applications to the City Clerk’s Office is Tuesday, January 16, 2024, by 5:30 PM. Don't pass up this chance to contribute to your community!

Climate Action Plan (CAP) Update Workshop

Community Workshop:

Climate Action Plan (CAP) Update

Wednesday, November 15th, at 5:30 PM

Please join the City and the Climate Action Commission for the second workshop in support of the Climate Action Plan (CAP) Update this Wednesday, November 15th, from 5:30 PM to 7:30 PM at La Colonia Community Center (715 Valley Avenue).


The purpose of the second workshop is to present greenhouse gas emissions reduction strategies that will help the City reach their targets for 2030, 2035 and 2045. This workshop will include a presentation on the City's CAP Update, followed by facilitated small-group discussions to gather input from the public.


The workshop will be accompanied by an online survey that will also allow people to provide input if they are not able to attend the workshop.

BUDGET & FINANCE

Two vacancies - terms will expire January 2026


This Commission provides input to Council regarding the City's operating budget.


Regular Meeting Schedule: Mondays preceding the 2nd Council meeting of the month at 6:00 p.m.


Position’s Requirements:

  • At least 18 yrs. old
  • Resident of the City
  • Property owner within the City

CLIMATE ACTION

Four vacancies - terms will expire January 2026

3 Citizen/Resident Positions | 1 Professional Position


This Commission participates in reviewing certain matters regarding reducing the City’s greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and implementing the City's Climate Action Plan.


Regular Meeting Schedule: 3rd Wednesday of each month at 5:30 p.m.


Position’s Requirements:

  • Citizens/Residents
  • At least 18 yrs. old
  • Resident of the City
  • Professionals
  • At least 18 yrs. old
  • Must be from the environmental or scientific community
  • Resident or Non-resident


PARKS & RECREATION

Three vacancies - terms will expire January 2026


This Commission participates in reviewing certain matters regarding the City's parks, programs, and assists Staff with conducting certain City events.


Regular Meeting Schedule: 2nd Thursday of each month at 4:00 p.m.


Position’s Requirements:

  • At least 18 yrs. old
  • Resident of the City

PUBLIC ARTS

Three vacancies - terms will expire January 2026


This Commission participates in reviewing certain matters regarding public art opportunities and assists Staff with conducting certain City events.


Regular Meeting Schedule: 4th Tuesday of each month at 5:30 p.m.


Position’s Requirements:

  • At least 18 yrs. old
  • Resident of the City

VIEW ASSESSMENT

Four vacancies - terms will expire January 2026


This Commission is tasked with reviewing feasible solutions for development when a view assessment request is filed and makes definitive decisions on projects utilizing the City's adopted guidelines/toolkit.


Regular Meeting Schedule: 3rd Tuesday of each month at 6:00 p.m.


Position’s Requirements:

  • At least 18 yrs. old
  • Resident of the City
  • Property owner within the City.
