Celebrating Mother's Day in Solana Beach

Mother's Day is a special day to celebrate and honor all the amazing women who have played a motherly role in our lives. If you're looking for a way to spoil or simply want to spend time with her, Solana Beach has plenty of ways to make this day special. From tasty brunches and the delightful farmers market, to the scenic hiking trails and gorgeous sunset beach walks, there are endless ways to celebrate right here in Solana Beach. Don't forget to check out local shops and boutiques for unique and thoughtful gifts that are sure to make her day.

New City Hall Gallery Exhibit

The Solana Beach City Hall Gallery proudly presents Life Comes in Waves by Andrew Wright, on display now through June 26th. A long-time North County surfer and self-taught artist, Andrew shares a deeply personal collection inspired by the beauty of surf breaks both local and around the world. His journey into art began during his battle with leukemia, when he turned to painting as a way to stay connected to the ocean when he couldn't surf. Don’t miss the special artist reception on Saturday, May 31st, from 4:00 to 6:00 PM. Come meet the artist, enjoy live music and explore over 40 original works showcasing iconic surf spots from around the world.

May is Wildfire Awareness Month

As the cool winter months fade away and warm California weather dries out vegetation in yards and on hillsides, it's a good time to prepare for wildfires. May is Wildfire Awareness Month, and the Solana Beach Fire Department wants to remind the community about the importance of wildfire prevention. By creating a wildfire action plan, maintaining defensible space, and hardening your home, you can help reduce wildfire risk and support the safety of our entire community. Let’s work together to stay safe and prepared.

City Launches "Solana Beach Cares"

A Seasonal Donation Drive Program

The City is proud to introduce Solana Beach Cares, a new year-round program designed to support neighbors in need through seasonal donation drives. As part of our City of Kindness Initiative, this program offers a meaningful way for the community to come together, season after season, by donating essential items for those in need. To kick off the program, we start by helping moms through collecting items that will help make daily life a little easier for both the mom and their children. A full list of suggested donations is available on our website. Starting today, May 1st, donations can be dropped off at Solana Beach City Hall, La Colonia Community Center, or at the City booth during Fiesta del Sol. Every item donated goes directly to a local family who could use a little extra support this season.

Highlights from the Creek to Bay Cleanup

& Fletcher Cove Cleanup Station Grand Opening

Last Saturday, April 26th, the Solana Beach community came together to celebrate Earth Week with the official launch of the City’s new Beach Cleanup Station, which coincided with the 23rd Annual Creek to Bay Cleanup. Mayor Lesa Heebner and Councilmember Jewel Edson unveiled the station with a special ribbon-cutting ceremony attended by volunteers and beachgoers.

Thank you to the Rob Machado Foundation for hosting the Fletcher Cove cleanup site, where 75 volunteers came out and collected 87 pounds of trash. Special thanks to everyone who joined us, including Mayor Heebner, Councilmember Edson, and our project partners EDCO and Girl Scout Troop 3844.

The new station at Fletcher Cove makes it easy for beach visitors to help fight plastic pollution by using reusable baskets to collect trash, dispose of it properly, and return the baskets for others to use. Next time you’re at the beach, grab a basket and help keep our shoreline clean!
