City-Wide Pavement Project

The City’s annual pavement repair and rehabilitation project is underway. Starting Wednesday, December 16th, the City’s contractor will be repairing damaged pavement in local streets throughout the City during regular business hours (7:30 am to 4:30 pm).

Due to the high speed and volume of traffic on Lomas Santa Fe Drive, especially near the freeway ramps, the pavement repair work will be performed during nighttime between 9:00 pm and 6:00 am, Sunday, December 20th until Wednesday, December 23rd.

Please pay extra attention to the construction and traffic control signs when traveling through work zones. City Staff will be monitoring all construction activities to minimize the impact.

SANTA'S SLEIGH RIDE

Friday, December 18th, 2:30 PM - 5:00 PM

2020 has certainly been a challenging year for everyone. The COVID-19 pandemic has forced us to reimagine the way we do many things. Sadly, this includes having to cancel this year’s annual Tree Lighting event. However, the Tree is up at Fletcher Cove and we are very happy to announce that Santa will still be coming to town this year and hitting the road in style!!

Come join your friends and neighbors (practicing social distancing, of course) in welcoming Santa Claus to Solana Beach! Children are encouraged to make posters thanking our First responders and health care providers, as Santa will be riding along with Fire, Sheriff and Marine Safety personnel to spread Holiday Cheer across the City.

The Sleigh Ride will be starting and ending at the Solana Beach Fire Station, located at 500 Lomas Santa Fe Drive. Please view the map below to find the estimated time when Santa will be near you.

Masks & social distancing required.

Meetings are broadcast LIVE on cable (Cox Channel 19, Time Warner Channel 24, and AT&T U-verse Channel 99), Web-streamed live online, and archived the next day for future viewing.

Public Participation

In an ongoing effort to increase public participation at City Council meetings under current State and County public heath orders, the City is providing some alternate participation options during Zoom Council meetings. In order to effectively manage this process, instructions have been established and are outlined below.

Provide Live Comments during Meeting

If you wish to provide a live verbal comment during the meeting, register for the Zoom Virtual (City Council Meeting) Webinar (registration required).

1) EMAIL a Speaker Request by 3:00 p.m. on meeting day to
EMAILGRP-CityClerksOfc@cosb.org

Subject line should include Speaker Request for date of Mtg
Content should include the Item/Topic you would like to speak on.

AND

2) REGISTER as a speaker on meeting day by 3:00 p.m. (noon) by going to the link on the meeting's agenda and follow the required prompts to receive a confirmation email with your log in link.

Join the meeting 30 minutes before the meeting begins by clicking on the link provided in your confirmation email.

Speaking participants may use the computer's microphone and speakers to listen and communicate or they may also call into the meeting by dialing into the meeting with a telephone (this information will be provided in your email confirmation). If you call in as well for better audio, mute your computer's speakers to eliminate feedback.

Participants will be called upon from those who have submitted the Speaker Request, registered, and logged on as described above. You will be called on by name and unmuted by the meeting organizer and may provide comments for the allotted time. Allotted speaker times are listed under each
Agenda section.

Do not self-mute since you will muted when you enter the meeting and organizers will unmute you to provide comments. All oral comments received prior to the close of the meeting will be made part of the meeting record.

Submit Written Correspondence for the Record

Written correspondence regarding an agenda item at an open session meeting should be submitted to the City Clerk's Office at EMAILGRP-CityClerksOfc@cosb.org with the Subject line including the meeting date. Please include the Agenda Item # and topic in your email.

Correspondence received after the official posting of the agenda, but before 4:00 p.m. on meeting day, will be distributed to Council and made available to the public online along with the agenda posting.
Written submittals will be added to the record and not read out loud.
All submittals received before the start of the meeting will be made part of the record.

Red Flag Warning + Elevated Fire Conditions

The National Weather Service has issued a Red Flag Warning for inland Orange County and San Diego County valleys and mountains beginning Wednesday (12/2/2020) at 6 p.m. and lasting through 10 p.m. Saturday (12/5/2020) due to Santa Ana Winds, dry fuels, and elevated fire danger.

To protect fire-prone communities in its service territory, SDG&E has announced that it may need to initiate Public Safety Power Shutoffs (PSPS) as a measure of last resort to reduce fire risk.

SDG&E has notified customers who live in high fire risk areas potentially impacted by a Public Safety Power Shutoff. These notifications were either made via outbound dialer calls, text messages, or emails.

Based on current weather trends, SDG&E projects that multiple locations may experience Public Safety Power Shutoffs. For up-to-date information on areas that may be potentially affected, please visit sdge.com/ready. You can also download the “SDG&E Alerts” app to get information from your phone.

One ember is all it takes to start a major brush fire. Please help us reduce the risk of wildfire by following these guidelines:

Never mow or trim dry grass on a Red Flag Day or Santa Ana Wind Day. Mow before 10 a.m. on a day when it is not hot and windy.
Never use lawn mowers in dry vegetation.
Spark arresters are required on all portable gasoline-powered equipment.
Residents should make sure they have defensible space around structures.
Focus on the first 5 feet around your structure, removing combustible items such as patio furniture or stacks of wood.
Remove leaves and needles from gutters.
Protect openings in structures where hot embers can enter.
Never drive your vehicle or trailer through dry grass when it is hot and windy.
