Families enjoyed free face painting and sang along to incredible live music performed by Rockademy, while kids embraced the spirit of the day by writing thoughtful thank-you notes to teachers, friends, and parents. The event featured fun activities like friendship bracelet making and a kindness rock-painting station, where participants created vibrant designs. These colorful creations will soon adorn the new Kindness Rock Garden at Fletcher Cove Park, serving as a beautiful and lasting reminder of the power of kindness. The event also featured Solana Beach Backpacks for Kids by collecting food donations to fill up backpacks for local families in need. Our very own Solana Beach Lifeguards taught attendees CPR and helped spread the message of community kindness. The San Diego Blood Bank Kindness Day Drive was also a great success, with many community members stepping up to donate blood and make a meaningful impact.
Later that evening at the City Council Meeting, Diana Kutlow, Representative from Senator Catherine Blakespear's office, presented a Certificate of Recognition to the City, officially recognizing Solana Beach as a City of Kindness. The honor celebrated the City’s commitment to fostering kindness, inclusion, tolerance, and engagement among residents, schools, businesses, visitors, and community organizations.
A special thank-you goes to all of the City staff who coordinated and set up the event, the Solana Beach Marine Safety Crew, Parks & Recreation Crew, Public Works team, Solana Beach Lifeguards, and resident volunteers, whose hard work and dedication made this event possible.
This inspiring celebration showcased the ripple effect of kindness in action, bringing compassion and connection to our community. Thank you to everyone who helped make this day unforgettable! | | Photo Credit: Mark Mennie | | Veterans Day Ceremony Highlights | | Last Monday, the City and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5431 hosted a heartfelt Veterans Day Ceremony at La Colonia Park. With perfect weather and a wonderful turnout, it was a day filled with gratitude, community spirit, and honor for those who have served.
Highlights of the ceremony included an inspiring speech by guest speaker Thomas Leonard, a former Navy SEAL, and a symbolic “Feathers from Heaven” dove release that touched everyone’s hearts. The Camp Pendleton Young Marines served as the Color Guard, while the Santa Fe Christian School Band filled the air with patriotic melodies, and their Dance Troupe delighted the crowd with a lively performance of "Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy". Other memorable moments included the singing of the National Anthem and a “Freedom Bird” song performance by Solana Beach resident Jaime King. Solana Beach Mayor Lesa Heebner, City Councilmembers, and former Mayors Tere Renteria and Tom Golich were also in attendance.
The community came together to honor and celebrate our nation’s veterans in a truly special way. Thank you to everyone who joined us for this meaningful celebration! | | Photo Credit: Mark Mennie | | King Tides & High Surf Advisory This Weekend | | | The Solana Beach Marine Safety crew would like to remind beachgoers that the annual King Tides (the highest and lowest tides of the year) are arriving this weekend! These extreme tides are caused by a stronger-than-usual gravitational pull from the moon and sun. On top of that, tonight’s full moon is a supermoon! These dramatic tides, combined with increased surf on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, may create unpredictable rogue waves and surges along the shoreline, reefs, and tide pools. Swells are expected to reach 5 to 7 feet during high tide. For your safety, please enjoy this natural phenomenon safely by staying alert near the water’s edge and avoid low-lying areas during high tide. | | Full Rail Closure Between Oceanside and San Diego Scheduled This Weekend | | | A full rail closure will be in effect this weekend, from Saturday, November 16th, at 12:00 AM through Monday, November 18, at 5:00 AM, to allow for critical construction and maintenance as part of SANDAG's Del Mar Bluffs Stabilization Project. During this “Absolute Work Window,” the closure will affect North County Transit District (NCTD), Amtrak, and freight services along the coastal rail corridor. SANDAG crews will focus on stabilization efforts along the Del Mar bluffs and continue construction on the Batiquitos Lagoon Double-Track Project. Your patience is appreciated as these important improvements are made to enhance rail safety and reliability. | | SeaWeeders' Annual Poinsettia Sale | | | The Solana Beach Garden Club, known as the SeaWeeders, is hosting its 12th Annual Holiday Plant Sale! This year, they are offering locally grown red Ecke Prestige Poinsettias in 6-inch pots and Christmas Cactus in assorted colors, also in 6-inch pots.
