Come early to get a good spot and groove to the infectious beats! | | San Diego Football Club's 2024 Chrome Ball Tour | | | San Diego's newest soccer team, San Diego FC, has kicked off the 2024 “Chrome Ball Tour,” a vibrant community initiative aimed at celebrating soccer, art, and the rich local culture of San Diego County. This innovative 18-city tour is is completely free and promises an immersive, unforgettable experience that highlights the beauty of the game. The Chrome Ball Tour will be making its next stop in Solana Beach on Saturday, July 27th, from 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM, at La Colonia Community Park. Participants can look forward to a variety of activities, including tournaments, soccer clinics, and live art and cultural performances. We encourage you to bike or carpool to this event as parking will be limited. | | If you must drive, we ask that you park at Santa Fe Christian School and take the free shuttle to the event. We thank Santa Fe Christian and San Diego FC for providing free parking and the shuttle to prevent parking in the nearby neighborhoods. | | North Coast Rep Free Summer Outdoor Show: Hamlet by William Shakespeare | | | The Theatre School @ North Coast Rep presents Shakespeare's tragic masterpiece, Hamlet, for FREE at La Colonia Park on July 25th, 26th, and 27th at 5:30 PM. This 90-minute performance unfolds the dramatic tale of revenge, madness, and betrayal in a stunning outdoor setting. Talented students from North Coast Repertory Theatre bring fresh energy to this classic play. Are you riding into your 60s, 70s, and beyond? Join us on Monday, July 29th at La Colonia Community Center for an in-person presentation covering rules of the road, where to ride, general bike safety, age-related considerations, fall prevention, and more. This class is open to residents aged 55 and up and applies to both pedal and e-bikes. Get ready to ride safely in the community! | | Save the Date: Beach Blanket Movie Night | | | Save the date for the City's Summer Beach Blanket Movie Night (BBMN) on Saturday, August 10th, from 6-10 PM. Grab a blanket, pack a picnic, and head on down to Fletcher Cove Park for a fun-filled evening and a movie under the stars! The evening begins with live music by Jackstraws Surf Band, followed by the feature presentation "The Little Mermaid". Plenty of refreshments will be available, including pizza, popcorn, cookies, and brownies. As always, there will be a large prize give-away with big-ticket items and much more! | | Traffic Advisory: Solana Beach Triathlon Road Closures | The 25th Annual Solana Beach Triathlon and Duathlon returns this Sunday, July 28th. This community event is expecting 900 participants with an additional 200 spectators. Residents should prepare for the influx of visitors and temporary road closures for this event. However, the impact should be fairly minimal as the race starts at 7:00 AM and will conclude about 10:30 AM. Please consider planning your route accordingly and allowing extra travel time. | | Veterans Honor Courtyard Donor Tiles | | | In preparation for the City's Veterans Day Ceremony on November 11th, the City is once again offering an opportunity to honor the military service of family members and loved ones with an engraved donor tile in the Veterans' Honor Courtyard at La Colonia Park. To ensure your tile is ready by Veterans Day, please submit your order form by Friday, October 4th. Orders placed after this date are welcome, but we cannot guarantee engraving in time for the ceremony. Submit your order today to pay tribute to those who have served! | | Call for Artists: New City Street Banners | | | The City is now seeking public artists to submit design proposals for a new set of City street banners. The Street Banner Program has long been a key element of the City’s promotional efforts and now the City is looking to replace the current city banners with a fresh, visually appealing set that reflects Solana Beach’s diverse values and interests. The new banners aim to promote five key themes: Active Transportation, Arts & Culture, City of Kindness, Environmental Sustainability, and Shop & Dine Local. The selected artist will receive a $5,000 stipend for creating a cohesive set of Solana Beach banners. Submissions are due by Friday, October 18th, at 5:30 PM. | | Call for Artists: Temporary Public Arts Program | | | The Solana Beach Public Arts Commission is now accepting applications for the City's 2024-2026 Temporary Public Arts Program rotation. This is a fantastic opportunity for artists to showcase their works in a high-traffic urban and ocean-view environment, attracting both residents and tourists. Artists are invited to submit sculptures of various sizes for consideration in this two-year exhibition. The program aims to select five pieces to be displayed at highly visible, designated temporary public art sites throughout our beautiful coastal community. Selected artists will receive a $3,000 stipend for a two-year loan. The deadline to apply is Monday, September 16th, at 5:30 PM. | | Call for Artists: Storm Drain Beautification Project | | | The City has reopened the application period for the Fletcher Cove Storm Drain Beautification Project. This project aims to enhance the storm drain dissipator structure at the base of Fletcher Cove Beach by replacing the aging metal outlet grate with a new, visually appealing design. The City invites public artists to submit proposals for a captivating grate design that will improve the structure's overall aesthetics. Please note that the artist(s) will not be responsible for manufacturing or installing the grate. Instead, the selected design will serve as a conceptual blueprint for the final product. The selected artist(s) will receive a stipend of $2,000 for their design.
