| City of Solana Beach WEEKLY UPDATE May 31, 2024 | | Fletcher Cove Storm Drain Beautification Project Call For Artists | | | Attention all public artists! The City and the Solana Beach Public Arts Commission invite you to submit designs for a new storm drain outlet metal grate at Fletcher Cove Beach. The selected design will contribute to the beautification of this beloved coastal spot and the larger Fletcher Cove Ramp Reconstruction project. While artists won't handle manufacturing or installation, their selected design will serve as a conceptual guide for the final product. The selected artist will receive an artist stipend of $2,000 for the completion of a comprehensive design. Submit your creative design proposal by Monday, June 17th, at 5:30 PM. | | Participate in Our Climate Action Community Survey | | | Your opinion is important! We're reaching out to ask for your participation in a short Climate Action Community Survey. The City aims to ensure our City policies and plans to reduce our carbon footprint are effective and meet the needs of our residents. Thank you for your time and input! | | Shallow Rental Subsidy Program for Older Adults | | | The County of San Diego Department of Homeless Solutions and Equitable Communities is offering a Shallow Rental Subsidy Program, providing a $500 monthly rental subsidy for 18 months to at-risk residents aged 55 and older. Applications are open now and will close once 160 new participants are randomly selected. Eligible applicants must be San Diego residents, severely rent burdened, with household incomes at or below 50% of the Area Median Income, and have a lease with a willing landlord. | | AMR's "First On The Scene" Class | | | Acquire vital life-saving skills at the upcoming AMR's "First on the Scene" class held this Saturday, June 1st, from 8:30 AM to 12:00 PM, at the Encinitas Community Center located at 1140 Oakcrest Park Drive. During this class, you'll have the opportunity to learn and practice essential life-saving skills at absolutely no cost. It's open to participants 14 years of age and older. Join Solana Beach Community Connections for a series of four workshop sessions guided by writer and teacher, Eberly Barnes, beginning Saturday, June 1st, from 1:30-3:30 PM. Eberly Barnes has worked as a speechwriter, freelance editor, and writer, and currently manages a writing program for undergraduates at UC San Diego. In each interactive session, you will receive suggestions for topics, share your written reflections, and discuss with classmates and the instructor in a relaxed, social setting. | | | Join the City and Solana Beach Community Connections for another exciting Bilingual Games Day! This monthly community event will be held at La Colonia Community Center on Thursday, June 13th, from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM. Come enjoy a variety of games, including Lotería, Scrabble, Dominoes, Uno, American Mahjongg, and Corn Hole. Bring along a friend and help spread the word! Come view the newest City Hall Gallery Exhibit "The Long Years" by Christopher Lloyd Tucker. Tucker's distinctive artistic blend of woodwork, metalwork, and digital art is showcased in his recent creations, where he transforms digital drawings into three-dimensions by assembling laser-cut exotic hardwoods or multicolored acrylic sheets into mosaic-like artworks, elegantly framed within hardwood. Come check out these remarkable pieces in person during regular business hours.
