As we continue to receive more rainfall, let’s all do our part to help keep our oceans and beaches clean! Water that goes into the streets, gutters, and storm drains in our neighborhoods IS NOT TREATED before it reaches our local creeks, lagoons, and the ocean. All sources of pollution, including soil and sediment, are prohibited from leaving your property and entering streets or storm drains. Only rainwater is allowed in the streets and storm drains. Check out these simple tips on what can you do to prevent storm water pollution!
With more rain expected next week, the City continues to make sandbags available to City residents. The prefilled sandbags are available in the Solana Beach City Hall parking lot at 635 South Highway 101. Since there are a limited number of sandbags available, the City is asking that residents take no more than 7 sandbags. Please prepare accordingly as at times the rain may be heavy and the winds strong.
The La Colonia Community Foundation will be hosting their annual Latino Family Education and Career Conference on March 18th, from 8:00 AM to 2:00 PM, at the La Colonia Community Center. At this free event, youth and their families will learn from local professionals about college, careers, and local programs that will help them become more knowledgeable about community resources. All workshops delivered by professionals are highly interactive. Some of the workshops are created for parents, while the majority are tailored for middle and high school students. This conference is being supported by the City through the Community Grant Program.
To facilitate maintenance and improvements along the coastal rail corridor, there will be no COASTER service next weekend, March 25th - 26th. No replacement bus service connecting COASTER stations will be available. Alternatives for some COASTER passengers may include BREEZE Route 101 or MTS connections. Coastal rail service will re-open for regularly scheduled service in time for the Monday morning commute. Passengers should note that trains may be delayed up to fifteen minutes on Monday.
The City held a Community Workshop for the La Colonia Park Master Plan in February 2023. In addition to updating the Master Plan, the workshop was also held to introduce and incorporate the recently acquired lot north of the skate park to the Master Plan process and to receive additional input on what recreational amenities and facilities the vacant lot could accommodate for the community. The City invites you to submit your own input on how the vacant lot will be used. This survey will serve as a basis for the City and its consultants to begin the process of creating a conceptual master plan incorporating the new lot.
