Construction Notice: Build NCC Project Update

Construction Notice: Build NCC Project Update
Removal of San Elijo Lagoon Trestle Bridge to Begin September 27th
As part of the work on the San Elijo Lagoon Double Track Project, crews are set to begin dismantling the old wooden San Elijo Lagoon trestle bridge beginning Thursday, September 27th and is expected to be fully removed in approximately two weeks. Its replacement – a new, double track, concrete bridge – went into service on Monday, September 10.

The replacement of the aging wooden trestle bridge was necessary in order to meet future capacity increases in passenger and freight rail services, as well as increase environmental benefits for the surrounding lagoon. The San Elijo Lagoon Double Track Project is a critical component of a larger effort to double track 94 percent of the region’s coastal rail line by 2035.

The new double track concrete bridge has longer spans which will improve the overall health of the San Elijo Lagoon by increasing tidal flow under the bridge.

Nearby residents can expect intermittent noise, lights, and dust from these construction activities, which include Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) required vehicle back-up alarms. Crews will work to minimize noise and other impacts to nearby residents. Your patience is appreciated during construction.

For more information, visit BuildNCC.
