Tools like lawn mowers, trimmers, grinders, welders, and chainsaws can generate sparks that may ignite dry grass or brush, increasing the risk of wildfire. To help prevent fires, avoid using metal blades or spark-producing tools near dry vegetation whenever possible. If equipment use is necessary, try to complete work before 10:00 AM, when temperatures are cooler and humidity is higher. Keeping a hose or fire extinguisher nearby provides an extra layer of protection. By taking these risks seriously and following proper precautions, we can all help reduce the threat of wildfires and keep Solana Beach safe. | | Beach Safety Reminder: Rain & High Tides Reshape the Shoreline | | | Following the season’s first rainfall and another of round high tides, the Marine Safety Department reminds residents and visitors that the beach is constantly shifting. Rain, tides, and surf naturally reshape the shoreline, resulting in varying slopes, with some areas remaining gradual while others become steeper—particularly near the edge of the berm. Keep in mind that as these coastal shifts occur, it is also normal for beaches to lose some sand during winter storms, a natural part of the seasonal cycle. Much of this sand will return in the coming months as wave patterns change. | | As you enjoy the coastline or the surf, please be mindful of these changing conditions and use caution when walking near the berm’s edge or recreating in the ocean. When in doubt, talk to a lifeguard about beach and ocean safety. | | Community Advisory: Temporary Shower Closure at Fletcher Cove Beach | | | The beautiful mosaic shower at Fletcher Cove Park is getting a refresh, which means the shower will be temporarily closed starting Thursday, February 6th for deep cleaning and maintenance. This work includes washing the wall, removing mineral deposits, staining, and applying a protective sealer. To ensure the sealer cures properly, the shower will remain closed for five days and is scheduled to reopen on Thursday, February 13th. In the meantime, showers at Tide Park Beach Access and Seascape Beach Access will remain open and unaffected by the maintenance work. We appreciate your patience and understanding as we complete this refresh! | | A Greener, More Walkable South Sierra Avenue | | | Exciting improvements are underway at South Sierra Avenue, making the walkway between the Distillery Parking Lot and the pedestrian crossing to Fletcher Cove Park even better! A newly installed sidewalk and tree grates are already in place, and the next step is adding more greenery. Soon 13 new trees will be planted along South Sierra Avenue, South Acacia Avenue, and in the Distillery Parking Lot, bringing additional shade and natural beauty to the area. These enhancements will not only improve walkability but also create a greener, more welcoming community space. Stay tuned as the transformation continues! | | | Missed an update?
