Christmas Tree Recycling

As a reminder, residents can recycle Christmas trees and Holiday botanical decorations by placing them inside your green organics waste cart on your collection day through January 6, 2024. Please remember to follow EDCO's guidelines when setting out your Christmas tree for curbside collection. Drop-off sites will also be available through January 5, 2024 at City Hall, at 635 S. Hwy 101, and La Colonia Community Center parking lot, at 715 Valley Avenue.

SANDAG Needs Your Help - Share Your Input for Safer Streets

There's still time to provide your input to help create safer streets in San Diego. SANDAG is developing a Vision Zero Action Plan with steps towards eliminating traffic fatalities and severe injuries while increasing safe, healthy, and equitable mobility options for all. Help SANDAG create safer streets by providing input about where you have experienced close calls on the road while driving, walking, or biking. Are there regional destinations that would benefit from a new or improved biking connection? Use their new interactive portal to provide suggestions for improvements, general comments, and view the feedback from other people across the region. Provide input by Wednesday, January 10th, to help create safer streets.

Ring in the New Year with FREE Rides on Transit 

Ring in the New Year with FREE rides on New Year's Eve, thanks to MTS and NCTD. As 2023 is coming to a close, MTS and NCTD want to ensure that your New Year's Eve celebration is fun and safe with FREE rides on all train, bus and Trolley routes starting at 6:00 PM on Sunday, December 31st until the conclusion of service that night. As a bonus, MTS will operate extra late-night service on all three Trolley lines, with service past 2:00 AM, so you can welcome the new year safely without the hassle of driving!

City Hall Holiday Closure

In observance of the upcoming Holidays, City Hall and all non-essential City buildings will be closed from Monday, December 25, 2023 through Monday, January 1, 2024. Essential City services and emergency response will be available during this time.


Regular City Hall hours will resume on Tuesday, January 2, 2024. Have a wonderful Holiday season and a Happy New Year!

EDCO's Holiday Pickup Schedule

In observance of the upcoming New Year's holiday on Monday, January 1, 2024, EDCO will not be performing any residential or commercial collection services, and all public disposal sites, recycling buyback centers, and customer service offices will be closed for the holiday. As a result, please be advised that there will be a one-day delay for all collection services next week.

Citizen Commission Openings 

The City is actively seeking volunteers for five vital citizen commissions—Budget & Finance, Climate Action, Parks & Recreation, Public Arts, and View Assessment. The deadline for submitting applications is Tuesday, January 16, 2024, by 5:30 PM to the City Clerk’s Office. 


  • BUDGET & FINANCE: Two (2) vacancies - terms will expire end of January 2026
  • CLIMATE ACTION: Four (4) vacancies – terms will expire end of January 2026
  • PARKS & RECREATION: Three (3) vacancies – terms will expire end of January 2026

BUDGET & FINANCE

Two vacancies - terms will expire January 2026


This Commission provides input to Council regarding the City's operating budget.


Regular Meeting Schedule: Mondays preceding the 2nd Council meeting of the month at 6:00 p.m.


Position’s Requirements:

  • At least 18 yrs. old
  • Resident of the City
  • Property owner within the City

CLIMATE ACTION

Four vacancies - terms will expire January 2026

3 Citizen/Resident Positions | 1 Professional Position


This Commission participates in reviewing certain matters regarding reducing the City’s greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and implementing the City's Climate Action Plan.


Regular Meeting Schedule: 3rd Wednesday of each month at 5:30 p.m.


Position’s Requirements:

  • Citizens/Residents
  • At least 18 yrs. old
  • Resident of the City
  • Professionals
  • At least 18 yrs. old
  • Must be from the environmental or scientific community
  • Resident or Non-resident


PARKS & RECREATION

Three vacancies - terms will expire January 2026


This Commission participates in reviewing certain matters regarding the City's parks, programs, and assists Staff with conducting certain City events.


Regular Meeting Schedule: 2nd Thursday of each month at 4:00 p.m.


Position’s Requirements:

  • At least 18 yrs. old
  • Resident of the City

PUBLIC ARTS

Three vacancies - terms will expire January 2026


This Commission participates in reviewing certain matters regarding public art opportunities and assists Staff with conducting certain City events.


Regular Meeting Schedule: 4th Tuesday of each month at 5:30 p.m.


Position’s Requirements:

  • At least 18 yrs. old
  • Resident of the City

VIEW ASSESSMENT

Four vacancies - terms will expire January 2026


This Commission is tasked with reviewing feasible solutions for development when a view assessment request is filed and makes definitive decisions on projects utilizing the City's adopted guidelines/toolkit.


Regular Meeting Schedule: 3rd Tuesday of each month at 6:00 p.m.


Position’s Requirements:

  • At least 18 yrs. old
  • Resident of the City
  • Property owner within the City.

Shop & Dine Local for the Holidays

Remember to shop and dine local this Holiday season and support all your favorite locally-owned businesses. Enjoy a day strolling around our beautiful community and discover a variety of unique Holiday gift options along Highway 101 and the Cedros Design District. On either side of Interstate 5, shops, grocery stores, restaurants and other conveniences are available to meet all your Holiday shopping needs. So remember to shop and dine local this holiday season and support all your favorite locally-owned businesses!

Holiday Recycling Guide & Tips!

Holiday celebrations are in full swing and with all of this comes a lot of extra waste. It’s hard not to notice the full trash and recycling containers on collection days during December. But did you know that during the Holiday season Americans generate 25% more waste? Knowing the most environmentally beneficial ways to dispose of everyday Holiday products such as wrapping paper, cardboard, and soiled-paper products is essential. When not disposed of correctly or just thrown in the trash, this standard Holiday trash can pollute the environment and increase waste in landfills.

Sandbags Available for Residents

With the current weather forecast calling for strong winds and rain today, December 21st, through tomorrow, December 22nd, the City has once again made sandbags available to City residents. The prefilled sandbags are available in the Solana Beach City Hall parking lot. Since there are a limited number of sandbags available, the City is asking that residents take no more than 7 sandbags. Please prepare accordingly as the rain may be heavy and the winds will be strong at times.
