4th of July Road Closure

4TH OF JULY ROAD CLOSURE
July 4th, 8:00pm to approximately 10:00pm,
Solana Circle will be closed to vehicular traffic
colorful-fireworks.jpg
The San Diego County Fair is planning to resume their popular 4th of July fireworks show this Sunday starting at 9:00pm. This year’s show is specifically designed for those attending the Fair on-site, with lower trajectory fireworks intended to be viewable only by Fair patrons.

However, in an abundance of caution and to protect the public’s safety, the City will close off Solana Circle to vehicular traffic from 8:00pm to 10:00pm. NO VEHICLES WILL BE ALLOWED TO ENTER OR EXIT SOLANA CIRCLE OR ATTACHED DRIVEWAYS BETWEEN THE HOURS OF 8:00PM-10:00PM. The streets will be closed at the intersection of Solana Circle and Via de la Valle and East Solana Circle and Nardo Avenue.

The purpose of the scaled down show is to limit large off-site gatherings for COVID reasons. If you plan to view fireworks this year, the City strongly recommends avoiding the surrounding areas of the Fair’s scaled down event. If you are not planning to attend the Fair onsite, the City recommends safely viewing larger events elsewhere in the County while also adhering to proper COVID protocols.

Please make advance plans if you live in the vicinity of Solana Circle and must utilize your vehicle during that time. Any person in the area should be prepared to move if an emergency vehicle needs access.

For questions, please call the Code Compliance Department at 858-720-2403.

Join the Solana Beach Monarch Count!

Join the Solana Beach Monarch Count!
National Pollinator is this Week! June 21st - 27th
The City of Solana Beach, in cooperation with the SeaWeeders, is excited to promote National Pollinator Week from June 21st – 27th. On March 24, 2021, the City Council authorized Mayor Lesa Heebner to sign the National Wildlife Federation’s Mayors’ Monarch Pledge, which includes a list of actions a city can take to restore monarch habitat. Almost immediately following, the City, the SeaWeeders and the Climate Action Commission joined to identify and cultivate the City’s first, of hopefully many, Monarch butterfly pollinator garden at La Colonia Park.

Every day, a few more monarchs seem to flutter by. Maybe you’ve spied a monarch caterpillar chomping milkweed, or even discovered a chrysalis dangling from a fence beam.
Log those discoveries each day during national pollinator week, June 21st – 27th. Your observations will help us create a Solana Beach Monarch Count for our community and support the Mayors’ Monarch Pledge.

You can capture your monarch observations in a photo, in a drawing, or just by taking notes. Please note the day, date and time when you saw the butterfly, caterpillar or chrysalis. Add where you spied them, if you can: Did the butterfly land to sip sugary nectar from a flower? Can you identify the flower or plant?
At the end of the week, please send your Monarch Count diary to seaweeders@gmail.com, or join the SeaWeeders online add your observations to the Monarch Pledge page at seaweedersgardenclub.org.

The SeaWeeders will tally our community’s observations and share them with the San Diego Pollinator Alliance.

Thank you for supporting the monarchs!
